SCCA SSB Civic Si build thread

I am currently building an SCCA SSB class 07 Civic Si, and I thought I'd share the process as we go along...

The car is due to race on May 7th at Pacific Raceways so in "theory" the car should be done the week before (yikes!!).

So...a little about SCCA SSB (Showroom Stock B) class:
Showroom stock is literally "showroom stock" racing. The among the few modifications allowed are a cat-back exhaust, and some safety items. The Civic Si in particular is allowed the Honda HFP suspension package as a competetive adjustment, but thats about it. I will be racing the car pretty much as it came off the assembly line.

SSB is one of the most competetive classes in the SCCA (with the youngest driver field I might add) with many teams having some affiliation with the factory. The 2 current "big dogs" in the class are the Pontiac Solstice, and the Civic Si.
The National Championship race called the SCCA Runoffs will be held at Road America this year, where the Civic Si should have the advantage. (VTEC Rules!)

About the car:
2007 Honda Civic Si : 36K miles
This car will be the freshest Civic Si build in the country and should be a front runner for this year's Runoffs.
Modifications that need to be done before vehicle is race ready:

1)Remove all airbags-Done
2)Remove Seat belts-Done
3)Remove driver Seat-Done
4)Install Recaro SPG Pro-Hans Seat-Done
5)Install MOMO Hub and NRG Removal Hub-Done
6)Install MOMO Mod-78 Steering wheel-Done
7)Install K&N Air Filter for claimed "up to" 20hp gains-Done

8)Install Rollcage
9)Install Exhaust
10)Install Schroth Profi-II-6 Hans Harness
11)Install Window Net
12)Install Fire suppression system
13)Install Honda HFP suspension Kit

Also..on a side note...I do need some graphics or paintwork...so if anyone knows someone who might be able to "donate" their time I'd *highly* appreciate it. While I'd like to spend $2000 on a paint job or a nice vehicle wrap...thats money I could spend towards tires that I'll be blowing through at $900/set every 2 heat cycles.

The car itself. Pretty stock looking!

Driver side interior without seat. But with cool mad tyte JDM steering wheel. Wait..MOMO is italian.

Yes, I took a cutting wheels to an almost new car. *sniffle*

The Recaro seat out of the car

Passenger side door. New rules state that I can remove the door panel if it interferes with the cage. I'll make sure the cage interferes with it

Good luck dude!

Hit up blue rocket (member here and sponsored vendor) via PM or at GrafiXpressions - Express yourself in vinyl form!...

They do great work, and its not too pricy.

The Tube bender in a box. This gets dropped off on Friday afternoon...but..its locked. And they didnt leave a key.
DOH!!

Adam Griffith, the guy who is welding my cage drops off the tubing we will be using. All 80ft of it. Can you believe that all of that tubing will fit inside the car once its all done?!

Adam is a well known FD RX-7 driver hereabouts. He won the Mazda Grand Prix Time attack RWD Modified class in his 450hp RX-7!!

And a final shot of the skeleton of the dash/interior before we get into the ugly stuff: (Cutting welding etc)

More updates to come as we get further along this weekend!

Question:

How much of a difference in weight is the stock Si seat compared to the Recaro seat?

Once the lower bracket and side mounts are in I dont think its much more than 5lbs lighter than stock. The stock seat is pretty damn light!! The biggest difference is that the Recaro has most of the weight on the bottom whereas the stock seat is more evenly distributed.

Ok Adam forgot his laptop at home and he's going back to get it...so I have a few minutes to post:

I was wrong about the Seat...I went out and picked them both up and the stock one feels about 10lbs or more heavier. A decent amount...but not enough to justify spending oodles of $ to buy a Recaro.

Some freebie pics while I wait for Adam...

Last year's Realtime Racing built SSB class Integra that we campaigned.
We set 3 new course records, won 9 straight races and took the Northern Pacific division championship in this old beat-up car.

A C-Sports Racer I was doing some testing on a while back...

Last year's Mazda Grand Prix Time attack: We took the Modified AWD class championship in a mostly stock Sti.

Just moments before this picture was taken, I was doing the robot in full racing trim. It was a sight that will most likely never be forgotten.

We narrowly missed winning Mazda Grand Prix Time Attack FWD-Pro class by 0.1 seconds to a USTCC 220hp 2200lbs car in our stock class Integra. I bet he was embarassed.

***MORE UPDATES!!***

Adam looking sleepy before we begin work.

ScottyFerrari stops by to see how we are doing and Adam's dog decides he wants in on the picture.
Scotty is a guy who makes me wish I listened to my Mom and became a doctor. He has owned both an F360 and an F430...and is a doctor.

Adam doing something I would never have done. Making a mockup to check fitment. Thank goodness he's doing the cagework. I'd just shove tubing in the car and hope it works.

Adam and doggie checking A-pillar bar measurements

We should at least have 1 A-pillar bar done tonight and have a tacked semblance of a cage done by tomorrow. Adam will shear the base plates on Monday and the rest of the welding will slowly get done over the course of the week. Hopefully before we head to ORP on Friday!

We backtracked and decided that the rollcage was to have just a tiny bit of bling.

I gave it a brushed look and clearcoated it instead of the normal black paint.

Local Racer and friend John stops by to drop of his gigantic bewinged slightly dirty monster car.

After quite a bit of moving things in and out of the car we get the downtubes tacked in!

The Main hoop was a bit easier but is also tacked in as well. Tonight we start on the windshield bar, and rear downtubes!
