Speeding Ticket..

Hey guys, I live in the Seattle area, and Friday on my way out of town for the Apple Cup I was pulled over on I-405 in Bellevue for going 75 in a 60, he put the speed down to 70 on the ticket, I had sped up to pass a car to get over to the carpool lane. Anyways, I have not had a ticket since the Fall of 2002, which I deferred. Can anyone tell me how often you can defer a ticket? I've heard 3 years, if thats the case then I will gladly defer, but if someone can give me an answer that would be great because I'm having a hard time finding out on the internet. Also the cop never even asked to see my registration or insurance, kinda weird. Anyways any information would be greatly appreciated thanks!

How does one 'defer' a ticket... ive never heard of that before.

If he didnt ask for your license/registration/insurance how was he able to write your name on the ticket?

This is comming from a cop, you can write a ticket with out asking for reg. and insurance... the drivers license has the persons name address, etc... also running the tag reveals alot of information to. when you run a tag it comes back to a name, car make and model, and vin#.

Yeah you can defer a ticket, which basically means you pay $100 bucks, and if you don't get another ticket in the next 12 months, then the original ticket you got never goes on your record, but I'm trying to find out how often you can do this if anyone can answer this, and the only reason I was speeding was to pass someone to get in the carpool lane, I guess thats what you get for helping out traffic congestion

I don't know what the guidelines are in WA, but here in Texas you have the option of either taking Defensive Driving or being put on probation for like 90 days or something. At the end of the defensive driving course (should you go that way) you get mailed a certificate of completion and just take that up to the court house (along with your insurance information/etc) and they'll dismiss your ticket. Should you go the probation route you would be subject to 90 days of probation and if you don't get a moving violation within those 90 days your ticket is dismissed (here in Tx it's called "Deferred Adjudication").

I would look into those two options in your state if I were you.

Well dont use that as an excuse because the udge will probably laugh at you. YOU HAVE TO BE GOING THE SPEED LIMIT TO PASS SOMEONE. That is what i was told. And believe me I have gotten pulled over enough times. And everytime I get pulled over I ask about laws and crap. And yes it is $100 for the court fee to defer it. You can only defer 3 violations in a period of 7 years i believe. One for traffic violation and two for non traffic violations. its somethin like that. if i were you i would invest in some research in WA laws. people here cant tell you because the laws vary from state to state dude.

Truth. I believe that here in Texas it's one moving violation per year, not sure though as I've only done it once. :\

I've owned my Rally Red Civic SI for almost a year now and I haven't gotten a speeding ticket yet, but....

I've been pulled over three times because I look like I might be doing something illegal. No tickets.

I've been detained while I ate my lunch in a park (in my car) because I might do something illegal. No ticket.

I've been pulled over while driving home because there was a street race in the area just before I left work. No ticket.

I've had cars come racing by me or try to entice me to race and then speed off only to be pulled over by the police because they saw some red Civic come racing down the freeway. No tickets.

And after all that, I still don't hate cops. I understand what they have to do and go through. I just don't appreciate the "guilty before innocent" attitude that I get from them just because I drive a Civic SI.

They should be pulling over all the as*@oles driving Escalades and Tahoes. Those guys are the real problem.
