can't decide on a dog
alright right now i can't get one but soo i will and i'm a little torn
and both of these I mean purebreads on one hand there is a siberian husky. beautiful dog. generally gentle in nature from what i've heard. entergetic. not so "civic" friendly if i have to move the dog in my car. also if i move back to florida after the marines i might be lookin at seasonly shavings lol. on the other hand a pitbull. I love how they are a powerful dog but in a small package. I am a firm believer that (as long as their parents weren't breed for fighting) that a dog is only as mean or nasty as you bring them up to be. so i don't believe most of things people say "oh they are untrustworthy or mean. a little more civic friendly minus that i will have to ensure they don't chew but thats any dog. opinons? esp from owners of these types.

I have 2 Toy fox terriers. They are ridiculously smart and friendly, its like having kids, they actually get things for me....(drinks, snacks, their leashes). Had a Husky, awesome dog but HAIRY, VERY HAIRY. they need to be brushed constantly and need tons of exercise and attention. Without attention the destroy everything. also they dont have a real long life expectancy. Pitbull, I wouldnt do it. Lots of insurance companies are real sketchy when it comes to them. Apartments wont take you if you have one, there can be neighborhood rules/laws against them. all because what a handful of retards have done with them over the past 10-15 years.

i have a pit, (2nd one) and its like u said, its how they're raised. Its only common sense.
I've done my research enough to know that they are happy, when they know they've pleased u. If ur their friend, they're gonna be ur friend. But at the same time, u have to assert urself as his master. Which is pretty much the case with ALL dogs. BTW, if u do get a pit, feed him Bil-Jac. Its made for dogs with they're kind of digestive system. (boxers too) My boys 7 months old and 45 lbs solid. And he dont pull weights or anything like that. I could keep on talking...but eh |

beagles are hell to the mother $%#(#&%(@&in no. I lived with a roomate who had two of them and just like i've read, they are breed for nothin other than barking. omg i will never get a beagle no offense
If i get a pit with will be a solid blue male. I got a friend that is gonna breed his and if not him he is in real good with the breeder he got his from. his female is solid muscle. he weight trains them by having them lug around something heavy like a chain for an hr on hr off (if i rember right) sesion and does that 4 times a day. again i like pits cause they are that solid muscle and its small enough to where i can just put them in the back of the civic (would fear for the hair and knawing though ) but then huskys are so beautiful and friendly.

Weight training a dog? That's ****** up...
My choice is always a rescue. Why buy a dog when there are so many that need homes and are free? |

Both dogs are gorgeous. I want a Pitt but I have a purebred chihuahua at home that prob. wouldn't like one too much lol. I feed him Bil-Jac. It is more expensive but he loves it and its great for him. I also have a black lab mix puppy who is a handful right now but black labs are amazing dogs!

The worst thing you can do is go buy a dog by their looks or what you think you know of them. Watch the Dog Whisperer. Sounds retarded but that guy knows dogs way better than I thought possible. You need to pick a dog that is based on your energy levels and matches your lifestyle. Case and point... my fiance brings home a jack russell to our house which already consisted of 2 cats and we're not exactly energetic people. lol We're pretty lazy so getting a dog that is so hyper and needs attention and walking/exercise as much as possible isn't the best mix. Sure we've grown to love him and he's daddy's boy but it's been a rough 4 months of training. Best thing I can recommend is see about getting some form of training when you first get them. PetsMart has 8 week programs that are only $100 and well worth every penny! Lots of fun, easy and is a bonding between you and your new dog. I also have been watching the Dog Whisperer a ton to learn about dogs and making sure I know how to reprimand if need be. If you would've met my boy Cooper 4 months ago (and he's a year old so he's not a full puppy, he's full grown now just energetic) and saw him again today, you'd question if it's the same dog. He's a dream to have around the house and I love him so!

I've got a lab/pit mix and he's fun, but a bit thick headed. I tend to agree with Toxis on picking a breed that has a similar suitability to your lifestyle. Either a pit or a Husky is a high commitment in terms of either training and discipline (pit) or dealing with pure energy (Husky). The coarse hair from a pit is not fun to get out of Si seats.. the cloth is like a pincushion. I swear to god he will never ride in my car again just because you've got to tweeze nearly every hair out before it gets vacuumed out. You've definitely got to stay on top of behaviour with the pit (any dog really, but especially so in this case), but they are manageable if you're committed and know what to do. I would definitely echo the recommendation for obedience school for any dog.
