Gas Prices Going Up Does NOT = Less Drivers

According to the news and radio stations, there are less drivers on the road due to the rising cost of gas. And they said it was a significant amount of people not driving and using public transportation.

Okay, I def. did not notice a difference in traffic this morning on my way to work. Granted I usually start early to get off early, since I get to set my own schedule, as long as the job gets done. Today, I decided to sleep in until 8:00 and was ready to go at 8:30 and it took me 45 mins to get to work.

And it's soooo annoying when people aren't paying attention to the signal or flow of traffic and when the light is GREEN, they still sit there. Or those people that block traffic at an intersection when the flow of traffic is stopped and the person decides to still go and wait in the middle of the intersection, hoping the traffic will flow in his direction, while his light turns red and the other lane turns green, but can't go anywhere b/c that driver is still blocking traffic!

You won't see less people in the mornings or in the evenings as they go home from work, but I think you will see less people at that 8-10 o'clock time when they might go back out to get some dinner or go food shopping

True, everyones got to go to work, but it's the "un necessary spending" that's down. The going out to eat, going to the movies, buying junk just for the hell of it that is down because of the economy and gas prices.

With $4.00 gas prices here for many I have definately noticed some changes. I have noticed more motorcycles on the road and also some stupid scooters (just buy a damn 250cc motorcycle, at least it'll go faster than 30). I know I'm taking advantage of my motorcycle as more of a mode of transportation instead of just for fun. I just hope the drivers out there are aware that there is probrably going to be more bikes than ever out on the roads this summer.

I have also changed my driving style a bit, I don't have my Si anymore but I've been accelerating slower and limiting my speeds to about 70 on the highway. I was happy the other day when I got over 400 miles to my tank of gas for the first time (an average of 27mpg from a V6) , and then the happyness ended when it cost $55 to refuel.

I've not noticed any decrease in traffic by number of vehicles, but the PITA factor of drivers has gone through the ceiling. MANY more people really poke-assing along than there were 6 mos. ago. I drive a stretch of 4 lane road that's marked 55, and half the people are now running 45 - in BOTH lanes.

I may not accelerate fast, but at least I'll run to the limit or a little over to keep traffic flowing.

Someone sounds jealous...

While I haven't noticed a decrease in vehicles, I have noticed a change in driving behavior. People are starting to control themselves a bit more to conserve fuel (I'm assuming). The flow seems more natural now.

I havent seen a difference in traffic either. I drive 80 miles round trip everyday here in Southern Cali and I still get the same amount of traffic, almost on a daily basis. I live by the metrolink in my town and I can say that there are a lot more people taking the train now. Sucks to live in California because you cant get anywhere without a car.

We are forced to use our cars and that's why our gas prices are so high. $hit, we should have the cheapest gas out of anyone since we buy the most gas. It's not fair!!!

I've noticed the Park and ride by my house is packed full at 5 AM. I can notice a difference in Atlanta, in volume anyways. People still driver 90 MPH through the city.

No difference in AZ. The public transit systems are shit, and there's bascally nothing. Everything is too spread out to use public transportation.

I have noticed a ton of Toyota Prius', and a slight increase in Civic Hybrids.
