The Bible "is not a science book," Funes said, adding that he believes the Big Bang theory is the most "reasonable" explanation for the creation of the universe. The theory says the universe began billions of years ago in the explosion of a single, super-dense point that contained all matter. But he said he continues to believe that "God is the creator of the universe and that we are not the result of chance." I love how he blindly contradicts himself here. I completely agree with the second part. But if one agrees that the Bible is God's Word (namely Genesis), I don't understand how he/she can believe the first part. The Big Bang theory is just that....a theory created by man. It's contradictions like this from church leaders that give true followers of the Christian a bad name. No wonder so many people think we're hypocrites. Sorry, I'm not trying to turn this into (yet another) religious debate/bashing thread. I'm just hoping that anyone who is reading and may be curious about the Christian faith and its beliefs should get their information from either the Bible (preferrably) or a more valid source that actually pulls its dicussion from scripture and not out of its butt like the idiot from this article. Here's a good start for more info about Creationism: Answers in Genesis - Creation, Evolution, Christian Apologetics and more specifically UFOs: Are ETs & UFOs Real? - Answers in Genesis BTW, I've met Ken Hamm (the creator of AIG) and he's an extremely knowledgeable guy. not true tehcodeman
god could have created all of it. there is no way he is contradicting himself by saying the Big Bang Theory and his beliefs in God are both true. God could have created an evolving universe. God could have set up the big bang and then let it all play out. i personally don't believe in God, Funes argument is legitimate |

I personally believe that if there is a creator, it would have happened like the guy in the article conjectures. Deist, pocketwatch theory. I look at the Bible like Aesop's Fables. Pretty stories, but nothing you need to take seriously. |

And I'd be willing to bet that Jesus would dress himself like those in poverty (as he did before) when he returns. So maybe your right about the baggy pants thing?? |

And neither I, or any other mortal, has the right to say that you would not be accepted into God's kingdom if you DO happen believe in the Big Bang, evolution, millions of years, etc. But one's salvation in regards to these ideas is not really the issue here. The problem is that Genesis is beginning to be interpreted as a "story" instead of God's Word and the truth. How long is it before people who call themselves Christian start believing other chapters of the Bible are just "stories"? Last edited by tehcodeman; 05-14-2008 at 01:12 PM. |

You could put anything in that blank and I would agree with it. Please note that "could" is different than "would". No one knows the mind of God. Take a gander at the AIG site and see how believing such things as evolution, Big Bang, etc. contradicts the timelines and truths established in the Bible. Check it out and you'll be suprised at how much scientific FACT is used to help support the Bible. Remember, the ideas of evolution and the Big Bang are theories..... One thing though fox: I don't understand how you can 1) make statements about God and his abilities, 2) then agree with Funes about the origin of the universe 3) and then say you don't believe in God in the first place However, you are entitled to your belief and I respect that. Don't get me wrong people, I'm not trying to convert anyone here. I, nor any other human, is capable of that. The Christian faith is established on the idea that one is called by the Holy Spirit to receive salvation by repentance and accepting Christ as one's Savior. I am only trying to encourage others to educate themselves and help keep people from listening to the garbage that (unfortunately) some church leaders have decided to start throwing out in the media. Ask yourself this.... (If you do): Why do you believe in evolution? Why do you believe in millions of years? Why do you believe in the Big Bang or some alternate theory of the universe's creation? Is it because some scientist with a bunch of degrees says its true? Did you read about it in text books growing up in school? Did you see something about it in the news and just assume they knew what they were talking about? I hope and pray these aren't the bases for your beliefs.
