Animal Cruelty. This Infuriates Me...

St. Paul man accused of hurling, killing kitten

This infuriates me. It makes me more upset than human homicide...I'm not even kidding.

Hurting a poor, defenseless animal because you have a temper? This poor kitten...

I hate people.

i really hope he gets some serious punishment for that crime. there really is no excuse for someone to commit such cruel act of violence. Seriously, anyone that can hurt a kitten must have some problems in the head

I like that some states are enacting laws with harsh punishments about these sort of things. I think both of my dogs just raised their paws in agreement.

If I was to kill my Boston Terrier like that (never would though), I'd only get a fine maybe here in kansas, where animal cruelty laws are a joke.

I believe he is being charged with felony animal cruelty.

I'm glad it's a felony. There is utterly no excuse for that. Poor thing...

Mike, as a Jew, I know Jewish law is very strong in its opinions regarding the mistreatment of animals. Here is a portion of that law:

"Judaism places great stress on proper treatment of animals. Unnecessary cruelty to animals is strictly forbidden, and in many cases, animals are accorded the same sensitivity as human beings. This concern for the welfare of animals is unusual in Western civilization. Most civilized nations did not accept this principle until quite recently; cruelty to animals was not outlawed until the 1800s, and even now it is not taken very seriously.

The primary principle behind the treatment of animals in Jewish law is preventing tza'ar ba'alei chayim, the suffering of living creatures. Judaism expresses no definitive opinion as to whether animals actually experience physical or psychological pain in the same way that humans do; however, Judaism has always recognized the link between the way a person treats animals and the way a person treats human beings. A person who is cruel to a defenseless animal will undoubtedly be cruel to defenseless people. Modern psychology confirms this understanding, with many studies finding a relationship between childhood animal cruelty and adult criminal violence. Sadly, the converse is not always true: Hitler loved animals; PETA wrote a letter to Arafat telling him, when he wants to blow up a bus full of Israelis, could he please not hurt a donkey to do it.

In the Bible, those who care for animals are heroes, while those who hunt animals are villains. Jacob, Moses and King David were all shepherds, people who cared for animals (Gen. 30, Ex. 31, I Sam. 17). The Talmud specifically states that Moses was chosen for his mission because of his skill in caring for animals. "The Holy One, Blessed Be He, said 'Since you are merciful to the flock of a human being, you shall be the shepherd of My flock, Israel.'" Likewise Rebecca was chosen as a wife for Isaac because of her kindness to animals. When Abraham's servant asked for water for himself, she volunteered to water his camels as well, and thereby proved herself a worthy wife (Gen. 24). "

Judaism 101: Treatment of Animals

Mike, I too have no time for people who are cruel to animals. This guy in St. Paul was one deranged piece of garbage.

Are you serious? So cats are above humans now? I mean yea the guy is an assclown but I'd rather see 100 kittens die than 1 human.

The key there is that a human can actually defend itself, while a little kitten is completely defenseless against what a douche like this could do.

I'm not justifying that animals are above humans, but I think that they are equal and so neither should ever be put through this kind of thing. Trust me, a very close friend of mine had a niece that died the same way that this kitten did, and I was no less angry about that than this.

I wouldn't. A human can defend themselves. What can a fragile kitten, who doesn't know what atrocities men (or women) are capable of, who only expects to be cared for and loved, do to protect itself?

While I value human life, I also value animal life. They are inextricably linked to me, and I don't believe that one is more important than the other. If someone ever touched my cat, I would put them in the hospital.

Bill articulated exactly how I feel about this. Just one more thing that you and I agree on completely, Bill.

I see what you guys are saying, yea the kitten/cat is defenseless but you also have to think of it this way... these animals have been domesticated and basically stripped of their natural defenses by HUMANS. So through breeding, we've devolved them to what they are at home. Now on the flip side, put a wild bobcat next to a human (hand to hand, or shall i say hand to claw) and the bob cat would prob do some damage to an average human if not scare the human away completely.

Kind of a double standard IMO, yea kittens are helpless, but yea we also made them that way...
