Man, Tippmanns changed a lot from when I pleayed...
I would just look around for reviews or paintball forums. One website I used to go to was Paintball at ActionVillage.com : Paintball Guns, Gear, Paintballs, Barrels, Goggles and Equipment. (PaintballGear.com) I don't know if it is still the site, I haven't bothered checking. |

Personally, I'd recommend buying a gun at a local store, especially if they own a field near you. Around me there's a field and store called Fox Paintball...the prices may be a little higher than website prices, but at least with Fox, they include lifetime labor with your purchase, so if you need work done to the gun, all you have to buy are the parts. With that, you also get a free 1 year membership to the field that gets you reduced admission and paint fees. Might be worth looking into for you.
Also, that's a pretty low quality gun...I have a lot of faith in Tippmann, but the common rule of thumb is that if comes wrapped in plastic, it's probably not all that good. I'd recommend checking out something like a Smart Parts Ion; fantastic starter gun. They have a new one out too, but I can't think of the name of it. Check out SMART PARTS though.

Since your looking at Tippmann I would say your price range is under $300 If your price range is under $300 you are prob playing woodsball (speedball guns are alot more like $800 and up) If you want a really good starter gun I would go with the Tippmann Custom Pro its like $160 and has alot of upgrades you can do for it fairly cheaply I would get Tippmann Custom Pro with a 14" Barrel a cyclone feeder and If you have the money left over I would get a HPA tank not a C02 tank cost a little more but well worth the money dont forget when you get into paintball your not just buying a gun... you have to buy gun, mask, tank, air, paint, upgrades (because no gun is perfect stock just like cars) if you want some good reviews goto pbreview.com or something you can search pbreview on yahoo

To be honest, if your budget is only $50, then paintball is definitely not the sport for you. I used to spend more than $50 on just paintballs alone, not to mention the equipment I used to have. The reason I stopped playing is because, although it's definitely a very fun activity, every single time you go, it only costs more. Everything from paintballs to refilling air to just getting into the field cost money. But, if you're really that interested in pursuing it, I'd recommend one of the lower end Spyder markers. Lower end markers might be better for you because they fit in your budget and there are less things that might go wrong with them. This means, not one of those electronic markers however, but a mechanical one. They aren't too shabby. I used to have one before I upgraded to a Bob Long Timmy. I've always wanted a Hybrid Traitor Shocker, but got out of paintballing before I had a chance to buy one.

I got bit by the paintball bug this year too. Bought an upped Tippman 98 then passed it down to the wife and bought an Etek. Tippman 98's are a great starter gun. My wife drops it all the time and I never worry about it (last time we played I had to clear 1" of mud out of the barrel so she could keep going). Probably your cheapest and most reliable bet is a used Tippman 98. Batteries are costly to buy everytime you head out for electric markers. Remember to look at the big picture too. You still have to budget for a C02 tank ($40) + a hopper ($5) + oil ($5).
Definately isn't cheap. Try Craigslist and of course ebay as you already have. Buying a gun already upgraded can be a good route to take. Pbreview.com as mentioned above or pbnation.com have tons of resources. |
