Car Video Site

Hola Aimgos!

I am currently in the process of deciding on making a site related to cars and videos dealing with them.

Now as most of you know streetfire.net is the big player when it comes to this niche.

I've looked briefly on Google and couldn't really find any other big guy out there in the car video world.

My questions are how interested are you in going to a car video site and what sites do you go to for the content?

This will hopefully give me a general idea on how car enthusiast view car video sites.

Thanks
Max

I just usually go to youtube just because I like the layout better, to me I just find the streetfire layout anoying, i dont know why but it just bugs me! I think another site dedicated specifically to videos would be great. Also sometimes when you search on steetfire it will bring up weird results that have absolutley none of the content I typed in the search bar, there is a video on their that no matter what i type in I cant find it!! I will say the layout is better than it used to be. I would totally support another good car video site. PM me if you make one I will be the first one to Join!

Maybe you could filter the video additions and only allow videos with decent quality in? Not really filtering by car type but more so by not letting dumb videos clog up the site? My biggest gripe while watching videos on streetfire is filtering through all the ones that are so damn hard to see because it looks like the camera man is jerking off with his camera hand.

^LOL that's so funny I guess I should add a "no jacking off while filiming" as a rule in order to submit vids :)

Thanks for the tip. I'm still collecting more :)

I like something easy to use. Not because I am an internet idiot but because it is just simple to use especially because I stay pretty busy. Like above... I prefer the youtube type of format. Personally I think streetfire sucks. I feel it is unorganized, and over corwded. I look at the home page and its so crowded I have no focal point...nothing to actually concentrate on. When I go online to look at cars, its for a number of reasons. Either something came out and I want to see it in action, or I am just killing time. I wish you luck, and keep us posted!

Alright everyone I really appreciate your info and views.
So far the things that people want in video site terms are:

1. Ease of use
2. Well layed out
3. Better quality videos
4. Improved search results

If you have any more please feel free to add

Also, for those that like the layout of YouTube better. What is it exactly that impresses you about it?

^its easy to use. So easy a caveman can do it

The home page is well organized..top videos, videos currently being watched. Etc.

Then, the search bar is in the center, plain, and obvious to see. I like how the related videos show to because its pretty organized. I/e Searching your favorite comedian...

you see part 1, and once your done watching part one you see the "related videos" section also has parts 2, 3...etc. So its easy to watch correlating videos in order.

I personally like Streetfire.net and have seen them improve a lot over the last year. Have you guys considered letting them know you concerns?? Or have you sent them an email to ask if they can fix or improve on stuff? I'm in the internet business my self and I have to tell you that unless you have mucho money and lots of it, it will be very hard to build a site like you want. Streetfire.net for example does about 30,000,000 videos streams a month and that cost tens of thousands of dollars per month just to pay for hosting. That does not pay for anything like staff or maintenance etc.

Look I know some of the guys at Streetfire.net and they are car freaks just like us it's taken them close to 5 years and millions of dollars to get to this point, what we need to do is talk to them and see if they can improve the site to do what you guys are talking about. I know because the search stuff really P's me off too but I know they are working on it because I sent them an email to look at it.

Maximus20895, if you want to build your site I wish you the best, I just think the car community should stick together and really around making great site for car enthusiasts alike.

Tanks for reading this anyway :)

Racingflix.com was probably one of my favorites, I was a paying member for years. Streetfire is kind of annoying, not to mention they always F#$@ with the search feature. Sometimes it work others it doesn't. If you could merge streetfire's apperance and modifiedautotrader.com searching and organization, that would be the ultimate! I guess what I'm saying is, I like how poslished streetfire is but wish for a more advanced search criteria like autotrader. I just find it hard to get descent retruns when I type +06 Civic Si, because users put their videos as FA5, TW FA, or something like that. I always get non-related videos. Yeah it might be a little more for the parties posting but it would eliminate alot of clutter and be easier for viewers who want model specific.
