Horrible way to end a car chase.

Live News Car Chase

My eyes teared when I saw this, I am not even kidding...Look at the car he crashed into, if I'm not mistaken it's a Toyota Supra...And he probably killed whoever was driving it.

A suspected bank robber fleeing from police on a high-speed chase Wednesday afternoon slammed head-on into another car, killing both himself and the other driver. The collision occurred near McKellips and Dobson roads on the Salt River Reservation.

The chase began after the suspected robber allegedly held up a Bank of America near McClintock Drive and Warner Road in Tempe around 1:50 p.m., police said.

The armed man entered the bank, pointed his gun at several customers and tellers and demanded money. He then fled the scene. Witnesses described the suspect's gray Nissan Altima to police, who found the man in Chandler.

Officers attempted to stop the suspect, who fled again, leading police through several east Valley cities, police said.

At one point, DPS officers threw out tire deflation devices on Elliot Road and the Loop 101, but the driver swerved to the right, missing them.

According to police, the suspect exited and got back on the freeway several times.

The suspect exited northbound Loop 101 at McKellips and headed east, then crossed the center line, where he crashed into a white Toyota Supra. When the crash occurred, DPS and Chandler police officers were trailing the car, DPS spokesman Cmdr. Tom Woodward said. Any estimate at this point as to how fast the suspect and police were going are purely speculation, he said. Video of the pursuit shows officers were some distance back from the cars.

Speed and the fact that the chase occurred in a populated area factors into the DPS pursuit policy, but those are not the sole determinants, Wood said.

Dozens of units, including officers from the Tempe Police Department, Chandler Police Department, the Salt River Police Department, the Department of Public Safety and the FBI, were involved in the chase.

At least 40 units are estimated to be on the scene, about a half-mile west of Dobson.

Since FBI units are present, Tempe police spokesman Sgt. Dan Masters said, it's a good indication that the suspect is wanted in several bank robberies.

The Mesa Police Department provided air support and patrol units. The chase only touched portions of Mesa, police spokesman Chris Arvayo said.

It is likely that DPS will investigate the crash and the chase and Tempe Police will investigate the bank robbery, police said.

Woodward said the street would be closed for a couple hours.

Saw this at least a month ago. It was a Supra and the guy was a respected tuner I guess. They held some charity crusies and meet for the guy. Sad story.

If he decided to take the easy way out that's one thing, but why take out innocent people. A concrete barrier would have granted his wish. Weak.

I hope he is burning in hell.

I'm with everyone else, just hit a concrete barrier.

Poor freaking dude in the Supra, I wish he could have had dodged that shit. You can see the smoke from his tires locking up to slow down.

Apparently that guy had just finished robbing a bank and had a gun. Why not just shoot yourself.

Again, I hope he's paying dearly somehow...

Not even, he intentionally aimed for that car to kill himself like a coward with no regard for anyone else, there weren't even any cars near him. Worst kind of person.
