thoughts of this tv

Its a vizio 42" 1080p refurbished Vizio VU42LF LCDTV - 42", 1080p, HDMI, Aspect Ratio 16:9, Contrast Ratio 1500:1, Resolution 1920 x 1080 - Refurbished RB-VU42LF at TigerDirect.com but the price is so tempting I bought my computer through tigerdirect so I have delt with them and they are a legit company. The reviews from the buyers look good. Any tv guys out there that could help me out with this? The other choice is the vizio 42" 768 but this one is brand new Vizio 42" LCD HDTV with Digital Tuner, VW42LHDTV10A - Wal-Mart please help

Seems pretty expensive for a Refurbished TV.

$800 for a refurb? You can get that at Costco for $1100 brand new. For $300 more I would go with the brand new.

i would never buy refurbished stuff anyway. its a waste when most of the time, its not even that big of a difference from brand new.

isnt vizio a "house" brand? i would stay far away from brands such as visio, insignia (best buy exclusive)....

especially a refurbished one. remember, its refurbished for a reason...maybe prone to breaking and the original buyer didnt want it anymore. ima beleive of you get what you pay for...and when it comes to a LCD tv that could cost more than 1/2 of its value to fix, it especially holds true.

i will quote myself from previous discussion regarding flat screen tv:

this is the thread to help you understand how flat screen tv's works.

What's better 720p or 1080i?

usually you get a 30day warranty from the place you buy it.

The Vizio I always see at costco is a 1080p 42". Its $1100 for the LCD and I believe the Plasma one is $899 or $999.

IIRC I thought Sony was a parent company of Vizio, and therefore share similar technology. Can anyone confirm this? Perhaps I am thinking of a different brand.

Also, Vizio gets amazing reviews from most based on price/performance.
