What to do when getting pulled over
I figured I would post this to save some people some headaches, money, and freedom...lol.
I think I heard it on the radio from a survey given to officers. 1. If you know you are busted, pull over IMMEDIATLY, even if you havent seen the blue lights yet. If he pulls out, save him the chase/catch up. 2. Pull as far off the road (TO THE RIGHT) as possible, do not stop in the emergency lane, go all the way into the grass. This gives them more room to speak with you on YOUR side of the vehicle and they can position their vehiclein a way to block other vehicles from hitting them. It also saves them from having to walk all the way around your vehicle into the grass. NEVER pull into the median or stop in front of a guard rail. 3. Immediately roll all of your windows down(ALL OF THEM) especially if they are tinted. They will know you are doing this for their benefit(personal safety, ease of mind). 4. Turn the vehicle off and keep your hands on the steering wheel and remain perfectly still until the officer requests your information. If you have passengers, tell them to place their hands in plain site(on their knees or the back of the front seat). If it is cold outside, you can ask the officer if he minds if you turn the heat on. 5. Be honest! If he asks you if you know why he pulled you over, tell him! Your honesty will be appreciated and often times rewarded with a warning or reduction. If you feel you have been wronged, DO NOT ARGUE, make excuses, or explain why he has made a mistake! This is NOT something any cop wants to hear. SAVE IT FOR COURT! Keep your calm, be respectful(yes sir, no sir, etc) and above all BE HONEST! I can't tell you this will get you out of a ticket, but I can say you will probably asked what you do for a living (are you an officer) lol. It has happened to me a few times. If you have anything to add to this, post it and I will update this most. Hopefully I haven't made a repost, I did do a search. P.S. I am NOT a cop! lol, turning the car off is a good idea. If it is cold outside, you can ask the officer if he minds if you turn the heat on.
Putting the keys on the dash is a sign of a felon, as well as the passenger putting his hands on the dash. I wouldnt do that. Edited first post |

lol, most of it had to do with the gangster mobile I drove back in the day. 1981 cutlass, black on black with 5% tint and spoke wheels...lol. I am white, but I had a few black friends. Cops told us they thought we were drug dealers when we rode together...lol. It wasn't the black part, but it was the "black with white" part. Redneck town too.

Just happened to me last night. At my buddy's house helping move a dresser, stayed to play some Xbox, and left his house around 11:30.
Got pulled over for 58 in a 45, turned on the interior lights, left the car running (it was 10 below in SE Denver last night) and was honest with him. He asked me if I had been drinking because of the bloodshot eyes, nope, playing xbox. Ran my plates and license, and just said to watch the speed. No ticket. Be honest, be polite, and it will still depend on the cop sometimes. |
