Now is this ridiculous or what?

As some of you know, I work in the service dept. of a Honda dealer. Well, last week, as a new shipment of Hondas had just arrived, I got a call in my office from one of the salespeople asking me to please bring over the Rallye Red EX Coupe from the new shipment to the side of the building so he could show some customers. I got the key from the delivery packet and brought the car over. He was showing the car to a teenager and her parents. I went back to my office and a few hours later i saw the salesperson and asked if they bought the car. He told me that the parents were there with their 16 y/o daughter who just got her driver's license and that they didn't know if they wanted to buy the car right away because they may actually want to buy her one of the new Acuras! I just shook my head and he said to me some parents go a little overboard and i said yes, they do...

a new 16 year old driver doesn't usually deserve a brand new car but not really ridiculous considering rich parents like to spend money on their kids.

Plenty of spoiled kids at my HS got new bimmers and cadillacs, I gues i'm just use to it.
I wish I got my license at 16, damn jersey

like i understand if you work hard, make money and buy your kids nice stuff but i don't think a 16 yr old is responsible enough for a 30k car i think if i had money id buy my kids something decent to begin with and learn how to drive, be responsible, and deal with miami driver's which no drivers ed course or manual can teach you and once that is done then yeah if i got the money my kids and i will enjoy it.

Considering most of us love our cars and really appreciate them..I'm sure you guys feel the same.

It really bothers me when some kid gets something really nice for their first car because most of them don't know how to appreciate cars.

When I have a kid my kid is getting an early 90s car first so he can actually appreciate it when he finally gets a nice car.

I think your 100% correct, it's just not a ridiculous concept for a rich kid to get a new car. My dad did buy my Si for me but I had my aunts 95 accord for a couple years when I got my license and was glad to have it. It was good to have an older car that I wouldn't freak out if i hit a curb or somethin.

uh yeah so how is a 16k car spoiling a girl? sorry if it was an Si even that might be pushing whatever. honestly a 50k income family can afford to buy a kid a EX or a Acura/Lexus if they wanted to. if you honestly believe thats spoiling someone then buddy your not making enough.

kid: HEY GUYS i just got a new CIVIC EX!
friends: OMG WHAT A SPOILED BRAT!

not likely buddy.....

Wow...take offence much?

First of all, A Civic EX is over 20K, not 16K. Secondly, I wasn't bashing her family for wanting to buy her an Acura, but it is pretty ridiculous for a 16 y/o's first car. I'm 18, I don't have to worry about "making enough"...wtf is your problem? jeez...

I dunno!!!!!! my first ride was an 85 escort with house speakers in the back, but hey I had wheels and after my Rents spent enough money fixin it they finally gave up and bought me a limited edition 89 twin turbo rx7 but I had to pay my insurance, then I wished I still had the escort, but being a parent myself know that if I got it like that my girls will be rollin nice to and remember your kids are a reflection of you so let this be a lesson. lol

Too bad you weren't my dad.

I would have loved to have a 5 speed 89 crx as my first car.

I learned to appreciate cars on a 86 corolla sedan.

"Safe" in a new car for kids is just dumb.

Kids need a slow clunky tank of a car from the 70's and 80's that leaves room for no destractions and teaches them what to do when it stalls taking a turn at 30mph.

lord knows it helped me.

i got my car when I was 16 and I only had my Permit at the time, eh SI was alright but if I could go back I would have found a way to get my parents to get me a S2k

Eh its not so bad, a girl at la jolla high school got a new bright yellow Cayman

I mean if I can afford it I would want my kids to get the best, its more of a status thing.
