What is the appropriate age difference between couple?

So.. my questions is what is the appropriate age difference between couple? Or.. is there even a guide line to an appropriate age difference?

My parents are 5 years apart.. with my dad being older.

I've dated women who are 2 years older than myself and 3 years younger.

I know Hugh Heffner has dated his playmates of the year who are barely over 18. Is that wrong?

Let's open up the discussion.

I don't think there is an appropriate age when it comes to true love. Love doesn't have a face, color, age, name, etc. It's a feeling.

The older you are, the wider that age difference can be. I'm 35, married 10 years this past May. My wife is a year older than me. We grew up doing the same things at the same time in history so we have a lot in common. When we see something that reminds us of the time we can say; "hey, remember that" and the other person knows what you are talking about. It gives you a lot of common ground to be close in age and that's what a long term relationship can be built on.

Now, most marriages fail, but marriages where the partners are more than 20% apart in age and under 30 years old fail at a much greater rate. Most marriages with wide disparities in age are more financial in nature (not all, but the odd are yes). You really think those women are in "love" with Heffner?

+7 rule boys. Take your age, divide it in half and add 7. I'm 20, so 20/2 = 10 + 7 = 17... sound reasonable??? lol

Keep in mind with most women it's about security more than anything. That's simply the biological imperative. There is a reason why when women have their own financial independence they go through men just like men go through women. J-Lo and Liz Taylor come immediately to mind.

I don't date anyone younger than me (everyone's always so immature if you're under 24) or more than 5 years older than me.

I like to think that if i took the guy's age and subtracted mine (example 30-24=6) that the age you're left with isn't the age where the person is a fully individual, aware person. If i wasn't even conceived yet and the guy is 10+ and in first grade, etc, then we're gonna have not much in common.

By your formula I guess I shouldn't be married to my wife.

If a boy is 10 yrs old & in 1st grade there are some serious problems with that kid. I know what you're trying to say about generational difference.

(Age/2) + 7 = (19/2) + 7 = 16.5

There are exceptions to every rule, but in general, I go by what I said.

Just for fun...

If you are a 18 - 21 y.o. male, you want to find yourself a 35 - 40 y.o. female

If you are a 35 - 40 y.o. male, you want to find yourself a 18 - 21 y.o. female

If you are a 22 - 34 y.o. male, anything will work just fine.

For long-term serious relationships...

A 2 - 5 year difference (either way) seems to work well for most people.
