Some of the best (and priciest) brands for home theatre gear. Just make sure you have something to take advantage of that HDMI connection, otherwise it's just a waste of money |

Don't fall for the monstercable, etc.., bullsh it:
www.mycablemart.com I've made several purchases and am 100% in love with them...great shipping without excess charges (Basic USPS priority mail is $4.05); they won't shaft you on shipping and handling. |

HDMI is not a big deal. all it does is consolodate wires.
with 2000, your probably going to have to get an integrated amplifier...which i dont like, but if you do, Onkyo and Dennon are good, i dont like Yamaha much, but beware, Onkyo makes some really shitty cheap stuff as well so you need to make sure you get the better stuff. as far as the speakers...theres alot of stuff around thats good. dont spend too much on any of the side speakers, but then get a good center channel and sub. |

Get a decent Yamaha reciever with HDMI inputs make sure itll play HD audio PCM etc. A nice set of Boston acoustics Bose or Klipsch should. make sure you get a decent sub. I have a similar setup my room is 24x14. I run some Klipsch center surrounds and a 300w Klipsch amp through a yamaha RX 650 reciever (older no HDMI).Sounds nice

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
Seriously... HTiB? You're looking way better than anything HTiB. Please stop there and go back to where you started! The problem with HTiB's are they are all price oriented, nothing quality. The first thing that's degraded to make it affordable is the speakers. What determines the sound quality more than anything else? Speakers! Plus, do you want to spend good money and have good sound or do you want wireless rears? Depending on the situation and layout, there's usually a way to get rears in there. If you can take pictures or draw me a lil map of how your room layout is, I can recommend speaker placement. If there's attic space above or unfinished basement below, you can get wires where ever you want them. What are your goals of the system? Where do you plan on putting the speakers? I need to know more before I can recommend anything. Whoever's looking for a package with BluRay with speakers and all... you'll be waiting a long time because BluRay isn't the standard yet. YET. Plus, buying ANYTHING in a package or all as one is a bad thing. You never get quality throughout. Period. Background... over 8 years of A/V experience with a year and a half in Installation Support. It's what I do... I'm a tech geek. |

Ye' gods and bloody little fishes, Doug! HTiB!!!!
Stop, go directly a laundry dryer, get inside, insert a loose roll of quarts inside with you, and start the machine. Once you exit your auditory sense will be damaged enough to now not suffer through the horrible experience of a HTiB... If you are looking for small speakers to go with a decent receiver (for your small listening space), then at least look at something along the lines of a mid-range Denon receiver and a decent Sub/Sat set of Definitive Tech, Mirage, Paradigm, or Klipsch units. You can get a very decent receiver and sub/sat set from one of the above makers in the $2K range that you will be very happy with, will actually satisfy you for years to come, and be a good price/performance purchase. HTiB....Saints and ministers of grace preserve us.

I'd stay with a 5.1 system as 90% of the disc's on the market are mixed to Dolby 5.1. Upping the ante to 6.1 and 7.1 is going to ratchet up the cost and there's little on the market disc wise that will take full advantage of that configuration. The receiver can certainly manipulate the audio to spread it to the 6 or 7 surrounds, but as far as mixed to that spec, very very little. It's all still angled to the majority of the theatre market that is buying 5.1 HTIB's.
You should be fine with a 5.1. Like was said, great center, great sub (look for a powered sub in the 8" range) the others can be relatively small or even tiny. And make sure you get a shielded system so the magnets won't interfere with your video (tv), they should all be the same make, same manufacturer basically, or the same series or line. Buying a matched 5.1 set versus piecing one together separately will help ensure that they all match in tone so the sound is consistent across the soundstage. |

I eventually ended up with a Yamaha 6.1 receiver and JBL Northridge E-series fronts and the surrounds from a JL 5.1 package, powered 8" sub. Rocks and is ten times better than the HTIB I started with. I jsut don't knock HTIB's quite as much as some purists do, great starting points....or they can be. |
