I popped the Question, need Wedding Advice?!?!

OK, well I popped the question this past Sunday and am now in the process of planning a wedding. We are getting married in Houston some time around April or May of next year so that gives us about 9 months give or take to pull it together. I dont want to wait longer than that due to the heat of Houston in the Summer Time. We live in Atlanta so its going to be a little tough to plan something in another state.

We know the church we are going to get married at but need to find a cool place for the reception? Any ideas? Also, anyone else have any cool ideas or tips I should know about? Here is the ring I gave her. Thanks in advance!!!

I told my bride-to-be to tell me what she wants me to do, otherwise I will stay out of her way. That seemed to work.

congrats on everything man!!!! well sounds like your going to need to take a week off and go to houston to get things ironed out. other than that the only thing you can do is call and deal with people over the phone and have pictures of potential places. personally i like to see the place in person rather than a picture.

good luck!

Advice: Let her plan everything. Don't argue with her.

You need to:
Show up in a tuxedo
Arrange for the limo
Arrange the honeymoon
Arrange the rehersal dinner
Stay clear of the estrogen

You have the rings (very nice).
Did I forget anything?

Thanks to all on the compliments. Trust me; I plan to stay clear of most of her planning that’s for sure. She thinks she knows of a great place to have the receptions so if that’s what she likes, so be it. I just never knew how much there is to consider when planning a wedding, its mind boggling that’s for sure!

I guess I’ll just take care of the Groomsmen stuff and arrange the 8th Civic caravan to and from the wedding! Hahaha

But when I over hear conversations about a $1000.00 dollar wedding cake I will most definitely jump in, that’s just madness!

PS> The center stone of the ring is .90K but looks as such because she wanted a wide wedding band! She loves it so that makes me happy!

Congrats! You've probably never worried so much about anything in your life up the point of asking her. :)

At the wedding and reception: no kids.

That would probably save you the most money and time in planning. Less than high school age, and the attention span just won't be there, nor will they fully appreciate the event and the meaning behind it all. Plus, the parents of those kids may not attend.

You might think about saving your top tier of your wedding cake for your 1st anniversary, but I'd recommend that you actually work with your wedding cake decorator to freeze a small cake of the same type separate from the rest of the cake to save yourself the hassle.

And don't kid yourself, the wedding is about both of you, but ends up being for the families. Just make sure to stand up against either set of parents if they feel the need to make decisions for you about this event--you're starting a new family, and nothing should be dictated about how you and your future wife should enjoy the first hours of your dedication.

Although I'm happily divorced now, *I* had said no children, with protests from parents on both sides. They attacked the bride to be, and I had to step in to have all of them apologize to her--there wasn't a need for them to shed tears over the issue, I just needed the understanding and respect of who was getting married.

My $.02

P.S. You can plan to stay clear, but she's gonna want you to be available and present for it all, even if you don't have any input. *shrug*

dont plan your honeymoon right after the wedding... It's a shame that all your old friends, and famialy is in town and most newly weds, including myself, leave town right after all the wedding stress is over...

You can finaly go clubbing with your old friends, relatives and new inlaws, But then you skip town....

Heck, I had no say in anything......which was fine by me....as she could not blame me for anything.

It worked me.....as I'm still married after 16 years.
