Airplane crash last night - Brazil

You guys probably have seen it at CNN.

An Airbus A320 with 186 on board (passengers, company members and crew) just passed felt out from the track during landing, flying over an avenue and hiting a gas station and a building (from the same air company - TAM).

So far, 168 confirmed death.

Now, let me put some facts.

Since september 29th, when a 737-800 from GOL Airlines got hit by a Legacy Jet, resulting in 157 deaths, the whole thing became a mess. I REAL mess. O lot of shit (sorry my words, but itīs the only one that can describe the situation) has appear, such like:

-Air traffic controllers have a low salary; 1/3 of what a american or european controller wons monthly;
-They had to deal with about 20 aircrafts more than the stated by the international aviation threat;
-Every computer used by them are out of date in comparsion with others air controll station at Europe or USA.

The airport where the Airbus crashed is located at a very, very populated area, in the middle of Sao Paulo-airfield name is Congonhas. At some places, the airplanes pass about 100 meters from the top of the buildings. Last month, Infraero (brazilian agency that controlls airports here in Brazil) closed the main track from Congonhas to do a repair: the track was retaining water.
So, they re-made the track, BUT THEY DIDNīT MADE THE GROOVING ON IT....so you can say that the plane just land at a "soaped" track.

Donīt know if thereīs any pilot here that has landed at Congonhas someday....itīs a 1935 meters track only.

Itīs sad, because this happened because of the reckless of our government about this. That airport shouldnīt be there, shouldnīt be operating. Maybe now it gets closed, and they build a new and decent airpot at some place better.

Sad day....very sad...

Companies and politicians don't give a crap about the general population, only about lining their pockets with money, look at the reasons behind the revolutions and overthrows in the history books.

The only way things will change is if the people speak out about getting conditions there improved.

Chances that this airport get closed are 90%. People that live around the airport are asking for this since 1996, when another TAM Airplane (a Fokker-100) got a misfunction at one turbine and crashed 30s after taking off. 110 died - 96 passengers/crew and 14 that were inside the houses that got hit.

Its a shame....and I just checked the passengers list, and 3 friends of mine were in that plane....

I've heard much of this at work today as well.

Looks like a combination of poor weather conditions, runway conditions, and pilot error.

Im sorry for your loss.

edit - looks like those runways range from 9000 to 12000 feet in length.

Theres no reason a A320 couldnt have landed safely in those conditions. Carry too much cargo might have been factors as well.

The plane had 61tons, according to TAM....limit is 65 for that track with those weather conditions...

First images made from a local TV News....they thought that the Airbus was inside a hangar.....
