MT Best Handling Test: Si unimpressive

Don't know if this was posted yet:
In the June 07' issue of MT, testers pitted 10 cars against each other in order to test the different handling dynamics. All cars were run stock, including stock rubber. The results were measured with a battery of computerized test equipment and the cars were driven by the same person. The test driver allegedly knows the test track really well.
Although the cars were not rated 1-10, the 911 destroyed every car in this round-up, while the Si came in dead last.
BMW 335i ($42,665)
Z06 ($70,000)
MS3 GT ($24,550)
Si ($21,885)
S2000 ($34,845)
Exige S ($65,100)
Cooper S JC Works GP ($31,150)
Evo IX MR ($37,424)
911 GT3 ($115,700)
Cayman S ($63,300)

HAHAHA, look at the price tags guy. WTF does this mean? put $90k into an SI suspension and see what happens.

I thought along those lines as well, but the test was to see what $$$ buys you.
Besides, you would have to add some boost in order to improve the speed around the twisties.

I've seen this before in the clubrsx forum. It's not fair! They tested the Si with the all season michellns, while other cars had summer tires. On top of that.. how can you compare a ZO6 and Cayman S against a freakin sports/economic car??? Those cars are wayyy out of Si's league to begin with.

Exactly. The Si was hand-picked from a pool of "32 great-driving cars".

No need to feel upset that the Si didn't do better. It is still an over-achiever in its price range.

Well the Ferrari F430 was eliminated from the round-up because the 911 spanked it at $60,000 less. So it's not just about price, but about the overall design as well.

I chalk it up to the crappy A/S Michelins. Still, do you really think it would handle so poorly? The LSD on its own should make SOME difference, along with the fact that while heavy, it's not girthy. Ah well, different strokes for different folks.

the 911 destroyed every car in this round-up of course it did, the most ecpensive car on the list.

More than that, it's the most track-ready apart from the Exige S, of course the handling will be exceptional. While the F430 was taken out because of its price tag, I would have liked to see that the 911 taken out because it was too purpose built. It doesn't sound fair, I know, but that kind of conclusion only brings up the fact that the more money you spend, the better car you get.

I saw this article too. Who cares. We can laugh at the fact that all these other cars cost more, some WAY more than ours and ours still handles pretty damn well. Like someone else said: Add some springs, dampers and sway bars and lets see this test again!

I believe the test driver also commented that the Si could have used a little more power.

I believe he only said that because it was the car with the least horsepower in the entire groupe. Even the Exige S has 230 hp, but that thing weighs so much less than our cars. Heh.
