How did you train your dog?

So, I've got 2 pups. One is a training nightmare. The first was pottying on her pad within a day, and she barks when the other doesn't. The other pees all over the dang place.

I've been reading up on "clickers" and my friend swears by it.

Curious what you have done to help train the dog. These are inside about 90% of the time since I'm worried about someone stealing them.

I've separated them today. The bad one doesn't get to sleep in my bedroom tonight.
Any other advice? I'm tired of waking up to a messy sunroom thanks to one rebellious dog.

FWIW, I know it isn't going to be easy so no lectures, please.

Give them seperate pads. Dogs dont want to go in the same place as other dogs.

when they pee inside I make them smell it and then spank it so he knows not to pee inside. Ive had him for 5 years and no peeing inside anymore. Dogs arent like children you cant just explain not to do it you have to show them that you dont like what they are doing

Patience bro. my dog is only 3 mo. old and she knows how to sit and shake. Took about 3-4 days per trick. You need to be consistent and patient. Dont forget treats and constant praise. GL bro.

Crate train!

It plays to their natural instinct.

For pottying I use pee pads. Whenever she would not pee on them I would get mad at her and carry her and put her on the pee pad. After about a month she caught on and about 90% of the time she would pee and poo on the pads. I also placed them away from her sleeping area at certain corners. Praised her when she would do it right + a treat, they love treats!

for night times when u can't really monitor them:

make them sleep in a cage. they won't pee or poo in the place they sleep. don't put any kind of pad or anything cuz then they'll just pee and push it away toward the back.

day times, just be consistent and catch them in the act/yell and/or praise when they do something good. some dogs just take longer than others to learn.

Crate training is a mandatory thing in my house, I also have spent close to 2G on training my rotti.

Give it time, your pups are still young. My boy is over 5 years old now and still acts like a puppy in a 120pound body.

i've got a Rhodesian and a Boxer, and both were crate trained. Clicker training is very effective, I might add...

Those are both awesome dogs, I would love to have a Rhodesian after my rotti passes away.

To whomever said that dogs don't urinate and defecate where they sleep, think again. I work at a vet clinic, and I will tell you that if the dogs don't use the bathroom at night, they usually go in their cage or run.

OMG! I have a chihuahua. It took forever to potty train my dog. The only thing that worked was the backhand.

I hated potty training my dog, every hour I would wake up and take him out side. I removed the coffee table in our living room so I could watch him like a hawk. I also took my dog to my work for the first 4 months so i could make sure he was getting out to pee every hour.

Since I have had my dog, he has had 5 accidents in the house so far.

The best one was his butt exploding in his crate the day before I flew home from Beglium, my roomates had to clean that up thank god.

Haha yeah, crate training and a little slap in the butt here and there was sufficient for me.
