oh my God, it's finally happening...

A little background information first, my best friend of 16 years,Aaron, has been battling Cystic Fibrosis all of his life. Since about 3 years ago he has been on constant oxygen and has had only about 1 1/4 of his lungs functioning properly.

He has been on the list for a double lung transplant for about 3 years as well. The recently changed the way people get transplants to how bad someone needs them, instead of how long they've been on the list.

Recently he has been in the hospital because of a lot of complications. But today at 3:30 am his parents got a call and said they have lungs for him.

I'm still in disbelief because we have waited so long for this.

Now all we can hope for is a good operation and a fast recovery.

Please keep him in your prayers and hope for the best.

Thanks for reading that if you did, I just want to tell everyone I can!

I know, I keep feeling bad about being happy that someone else lost their life, but because they were an organ donor it lets my best friend love a long deserving life.

Dont feel bad, its ok to be happy, I'm sure the family of the victim would be happy to know that their family member is giving life to another human being, and in some way part of them still lives.

Yeah. Still, give Aaron my best wishes...I knew someone with CF once. Rotten deal. And I offer my condolences to the family of the anonymous donor--but also my heartfelt congratulations for what he and they made possible. Sign your cards and talk to your families, folks. Or whatever else you need to do to cement your status as a donor in your particular location.

And give blood while you're at it, eh?

Best wishes to your friend. Not to be the bearer of bad news, but the life expectancy of someone with CF is only about 25. Coincidentally, Frankie off of real world San Deigo (the crazy red haired gothicish pale girl who was scared of the water) just died this week at 25 from CF as well...

Yeah, they've been telling him and his family that since he was born.

He wasn't supposed to live a week, thena month, then a year, then 3 years, then 7, then 10, then 15, then 18. He's still here. With a transplant the life expectancy of a person with CF goes up drastically.

One of the donor teams has OK'ed the lungs and the other donor team should be heading back with them now from the east coast.

I hope they can get into surgery soon.

Thanks everyone for your support, I really appreciate it.

I hope all goes well.

To everyone, check the box to be an organ donor! You won't have use for them when you're gone & someone can benefit!

He just went into surgery. The transplant began about 15 minutes ago. I'm heading up to the hospital now to be with his family.

Thanks again everyone.

The surgery was finished at around 10:30 last night. It started at 2:30 pm so it was quite the long surgery. We were able to see him around 11:45 for a little while, but of course he was still sedated. He will be sedated until late sunday and possible monday. I may take off work on tuesday and spend the whole day there.

We are all still in disbelief about all of this.

These next few days are the most important. Please continue to keep him in your prayers or if you don't pray just hope that he gets through this.

Thank you again, I can't say that enough.
