Training tips, I need advice.

Well, well, well, the time has come. Today I start my 100 day training period for myself to prepare for boot camp for the United States Marine Corp.

I tried to attend Lincoln Technical Institute to go to school for an Automotive Technician but my financial status could not meet that of the schools therefore I turned to my recruiter. And in 100 days I plan to ship off to North Carolina for my boot camp.

Granted I have a pool which will help alot with my training but other than that I need advice Are there any training instructors or military personnel to give me some tips.

x10,000

I was in the Army and I saw many people close off the other options without looking into them first. I STRONGLY suggest you see what they have to offer you. It could be well worth the time talking to ALL the branches because you could end up with much better training or a much better job depending on where you go!!!!

I don't want to go in earlier, it's freaking summer and on top of that I need to prepare myself.

I refuse to join any force other than the Marines(period).

ASVAB is taken in an air conditioned room in front of a computer... do you mean study for it? dude, at least talk to them. army gives you huge bonuses and you can get some good jobs in the AF, CG and Navy. research it like you research your cars man.

Well I'll give you some tips that will generally help you out.

1. If you smoke.....STOP,not later, not tomorrow,RIGHT NOW.your lungs will thank you for it when you run or do anything physical.

2. Run....Make it a habit to run often, try to run at least a mile at first and then after a month run two or more(note:Make sure you drink plenty of water before doing any training and drink some after too).

3.I can't help you with the pullups since I'm in the army but i know a little something about pushups......always do them correctly.Start doing them in correct form without worrying about how many you do becasue you will get better with training.

well I don't want to give you much more as it may conflict with what you are going to be going through as a Marine but I hope this helps.

You are correct, the Marine Force Recon are the best.

I'm not sure why people are trying to steer you toward other branches of the armed forces, especially considering how stubborn jarheads are notorious for being (I say it with love).

If you want to be ready to fight and endure, I would recommend timed circuit training. Nothing will get you stronger and more able than that. It just happens to be a pain in the ass. You can look it up to get workout plans, but the basic idea is to do a specific set of exercises for a certain number of repetitions in the shortest time possible. Because of the intensity and speed factor, your heartrate will stay constantly elevated to cardio-workout levels. Each workout will concentrate on the entire body. My buddy works as a personal trainer and he just started getting into kettlebells about a year ago and says they're great for these type of workouts. I stuck with dumbells.

You do these workouts only a couple times a week to make sure your muscles have adequate repair time. On off days you can run or bike for cardio training. I don't like pavement running exclusively because your knees only last so long, and my family doesn't have a great history when it comes to knees holding up. If you've got resilient joints, though, go for it; you'll be doing a lot of it later on.

Oh, and learn your weapons ahead of time if you can. Even if you can't get your hands on a Colt Sporter (or equivalent), you can look up the working parts and get a feel for the mechanics. I live in California. We had to sell ours.

You should probably go take that ASVAP before you get your heart set on Special Forces.

...I'm not positive, but any special forces has a very high drop out rate. I'm not sure why you wanna do special forces unles you plan on being career military, plan on being a cop when you get out, or want to do like private security when you get out (I'm sure there are other options I'm not aware of).

I'd guess like 75-80% who try out for special forces don't make it through the training. Not saying you wont make it. Just a reality check. Have a back up plan.

As far as "nice" bases and amenities the rank in the armed forces go's. air force > navy > army > marines. For enlisted personel, it's usualy the same order for/intelegence. Again, not attacking you personally, just an observation.

If you're going to join the military at least get a job you can do on the outside when you're done. I know at least several branches have x-ray techs, dental hygenists, mechanics, police, aircraft engine mechanics, helecopter engine mechanics. My cousin was in the marines, got out, he's a helecopter mechanic now. (x-ray tech = like $25/hour in the real world?)

I have never been in the military but I grew up on military bases, including ones over-seas. After high-school I turned down a $10,000 check from the army to enlist and went to college, never regreted it. (although I should have joined the airforce for 4 years and let the GI bill pay for my school later)

I'd suggest cardio, cardio & more cardio. Just a heads up though. If you really shine in basic, they'll work you till you don't.

my 2 cents.

Also, talk to (like sit down and meet with) somone in the marines, someone from church or something, ask them if they could do it over again what branch would they join & why.

Good luck and God bless.

T.

Edited...
You said you wanted to go to school to be an automotive mechanic...dude, they have that job in all 4 branches. My homeboy got trained as a firefighter, did his time & now works for the state of Hawaii as an airport firefighter. Consider what you want to do with your life. In 4 years you can either have 4 years automechanic experience & the GI bill to put you through school (even trade school if my understanding is correct). Or, 4 years grunt experience with re-enlistment as a very strong option and no experience w/automotives. Go be a mechanic and go to UTI and in 7 years design some kickass header for the 2014 Si we can all groupbuy.

I'm done.

Thanks for your entire input, however, my post will be simply on these paragraphs.

Not only that but the drop out rate in the Marines is also higher than any other branch. Why, do you ask? Because they don't really want to be there like they think they do. Whether you believe me or not I really want to be a Marine and fight overseas and the only reason I attempted to attend college is because I have a potential wife with me and she would rather me not join the military, however I am still getting my way( ).

Anyway, yeah, just think about all the people that try to be SP or join the Marines thinking it's not that hard, it would be a cool thing to do. I know it's going to be hell, and i'll like being in hell to do it. That is also a reason why I am starting my training now, actually, I need to go swim.

Later.

Edit: I plan on retiring in the Marines 20-30 years later down the line, joining the FBI, S.W.A.T., or other high authorities.
