Guitar Players - Need Amp Advice
I know there has to be a bunch of you out there that play guitar and can give me some advice on a new amp.
Im looking at two right now: Fender FM212 Crate GT212 Whats your opinion, i use pedals for my effects so i dont need an like a line6 with a shit load of effects built in. I just want nice clean sound and good quality. my price range is between $200 and $350. Id prefer to spend less and buy some new pedals though. I play metal (like killswitch engage), rock (like jimi) and alternative (like 311 or red hot chili) Your advice would be awesome. Thanks |

Crates don't usually sing quite as well as Fenders in my experience. If you just want good voice, the Fender will probably serve you better.
But to be completely honest, I think you should consider Line 6. I've played through solid state Fenders, Crates and Line 6s, and the Lines win hands down. I currently play through a spiderII and don't even use the effects built in (I don't use effects at all), but it's got a clarity that the other's didn't and the built-in distortion is very nice. You want metal, you've got metal. |

Peavy's are cheap and can get damn loud and pretty aggressive if you play metal. If you want something more versatile, dish out the cash and get a Marshall and pump a good effect through it. It comes down to if you need to perform with the amp or if its just for your own playing enjoyment. If its the first, I know a lot of fun things you could do with just a computer, guitar, and an interface.
out of the two amps you mentioned, I would go with crate just because you said you play metal and fender is known for more mellow and bluesy sounds. |

Save up just a lil bit more money and get this
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...mp-?sku=480334 Randall RG75G3 G3 Series It sounds really good and if you need the distortion to be a LOT heavier, just pick up a boss metal zone. Its hands down, the best distortion pedal ever made, once you tune all the knobs to your liking. |

I personally would stay away from modeling amps if your gonna use pedals. I have had nothing but bad experiences trying to run a distortion pedal (rat pedal) through a modeling amp (Vox).
Granted it could just be the Vox because it tries to be 10 different tube amps but I really want to just get a pure amp, nothing but speakers and some watts. |

I, personally am currently rocking on a Crate GT212. I have no complaints. I love it. Great versatility (light rock to death metal tone)
BUT OF COURSE, all these opinions are good and whatnot. But, nothing beats plugging in a guitar and testing each amp out. |
