whats a mp3
I have a LX and am trying to figure out what "mp3 capable" is. I burned a data disc with like 200 songs to a DVD+R disc and the factory cd player spits it out. Did I burn a MP3? If I did it wrong then how can I burn a MP3? Do I use a CD R or a DVD R? Thanks for the help

Yeah, your mistake was burning it onto a DVD-R. The factory CD player only reads CD-R's. An MP3 is a file format that the song is written in to compress it and save space, thats all. MP3 capable means that the player has the software to decode the file format and play it. Hope this helps!

Basically, do the same thing you already did, but use a CD-R and you should be fine. |

Logically though, the company is not going to invest the extra dollars in an audio system that was capable of reading DVD disks but not play video (if there were such a thing). |

Not even the stock '06 Navi will read consumer DVDs. It reads the Navigation DVD only, and even if it recognized the DVD you wanted to play, it doesn't have the proper software installed to play any sort of media other than a friggin' map telling you where the nearest McDonald's is.
I almost want to flame you for this question... but that just wouldn't be right.... The only things that will accept a DVD disk (for the most part) are DVD Players, Computers, and Video Game Consoles... Oh and maybe navi systems?
Logically though, the company is not going to invest the extra dollars in an audio system that was capable of reading DVD disks but not play video (if there were such a thing).
There is...it's called DVD-Audio and the Acura TL and RL have had them since for two years. It's becoming more common place now. The upcoming RDX will have it, Mercedes and BMW use it. Alpine makes a DVD-Audio CD Player. The F#1 Status. Best damn headunit you can buy...period. To the original poster, if you have Nero or another MP3 burning program, you'll be fine. Either you did something wrong or you don't have very many songs if you only got 200 on a DVD-R. Depending on what size disc you have (single-layer or dual layer), you should be in the thousands. I have a CD-R with MP3's on it and I believe I got about 230 on it. It was good enough for 14 hours of music if I recall....and I still wasn't done. :) |

The advantage I've found to burning mp3 CD's is that the mp3 tag info will display in the stereo readout (so will certain "new" store bought compact discs). Push the "display" button to select between the artist name, album name, track name... I just wish that the stereo would scroll through the info and not limit the readout to only 15 characters or so. |
