Tokio Drift
So I want to get into drifting, and there is a 240sx I want to buy. At the company I run, we just bought a work truck from this dude out that has an auto repair/ junkyard company. This place is small but the dude that runs it/ owns it does excelent work. His property is in this little town called Wiskey Flatts out side of DFW. Kindof by Cresson where there is a race track that I am pretty sure they do drifting at, but I'm not sure.
Anyways getting on to the car... It is a 240sx, and I don't know what year. It is an auto...which sucks, and it doesn't run. I told the guy to take a look at it, bc it had been sitting out there forever and he didn't remember what was wrong with it and try to tell me what was wrong with it, and how much it would cost to get the motor into good running condition. He said he would take a look at it and give me a call. He is a little back up right now so I have a couple of days to think about this. The car is beat up enought that I wouldn't care going nutz at the track, and the interior is screwed, but I would strip it anyway. Does anyone on here have any advice? I'm not sure the best way to get into drifting money wise, and the best car to get. I have the money to do it I think I just don't know, sorry long day. Sorry if this is a repost, and sorry if this wouldn't be considered the correct area to post this Oh its like the 1990 body style |

I would not get that 240sx that you looked at. Just seems like too much work to start off with. first look for a car with a good frame(no rust or anything like that) and don't worry about the bumpers too much. Most likely you will bump them one or two times. Then try to see if you can get one with a LSD(I believe it is for the 240sx SE). Try to get an s13 240sx. They are pretty light compared to the other model years. In addition, look for one with a decent motor that you can learn on. Drifting isn't all about power but it sure does help. Just find yourself a nice decent 240, do some suspension work and practice. Once you get good and get the hang of things, then start worrying about an SR20DET swap. Oh by the way, if you are drifting, manual is the only way to go. Be patient in your search for a 240sx. Good luck.

what are you looking at doing with the car? just for drift/track? if so i'd say get the engine running, weld up the spidergears (before anyone jumps on me about it saying "it won't last" i know numerous people who've done it and it's ok...besides it's on the cheap) then hit off suspension. a sr swap would be great but if you can't afford it or have to rebuild the k anyways you should check out a small turbo set up...oh and invest in used tires some places have half way decent tires for $15
