Different Fuel grade for the Si?

The service manual recommend Preumium gas for the Civic Si, but have anyone try different grade of gasoline for the Si? If so what did you guys notice about the changes? And does it affect the smog on the Si? Due to gas prices I'm thinking of switching fuel grade for my Si, since it the only car I have right now.

your profile says you drive an ex.

but if you do drive an si. dont go with a lower octane, stick to the 91 or 93.

you will notice the diffrence. and plus the cost diffrence to fill up with 87 compared to 91 is like $3....so give something up that you buy once a week for $3

In before the lock.

I know what you mean...$2.20 extra per fill-up is a lot of cash.

higher octane is required for high compression N/A motors (11.0:1 Si)
If you use 87 you could experience pre-ignition/knocking and you're screwing up your motor from the inside.

Is saving $2-3 really that important to you, that you'd be willing to risk damaging the engine?
