This girl i know shes buddist so i think i may give it a try..I had no idea were to start and she said "Be happy all the time and don't want things" i said "Bulderdash! i want stuff for my car!" So for now ima at least try the 'always be happy' who's with me?! |

oh boy..religion...
im half Hebrew and half..i dunno. my dad (the Jew) wasnt around for most of my younger years so my mom didnt wanna make me go to church and not let my dad have his say in it. so i really never had a religion. i kinda like it that way. when you are an outsider in religions, you see waaaay too much contradiction in all of them. you dont have to go to church, nor do you have to have a specific religion to believe in God |

ps. being "Buddhist" would be best if you really didn't see it as a religion...in which it never was originally meant to be |

buddhism is not a religion. you dont need to abondon your religion, or even have a religion to practice buddhism. the original concept of buddhism is extremly simple, and it will not conflit with any religion that i know of.
when it started to spread, espicially in eastern asia, it got stuffed with a bunch of 'sheeple control' i personally dont agree with, and am personally an atheist, but i have a bit of extra respect for people who truley practice true buddhism. |

I mean in essence, I admit that buddha has turned into a godlike figure all over the world(My parents have a fat buddha statue). But for us who have studied world history know that buddha was a real person who just created a philosophy on how life should be.

Alright, seeing that I am no expert on religion I would have to say that analyzing belief systems cannot be done accurately and without influence to bias opinion. So I will leave it at this, what factors truly constitute a religion and how does one know the factors

I didn't read any posts.. but you should read "Tao Te Ching."
It always made me feel more peaceful and clear. I really need to pick up another copy. Here is a preview link.. some pages are taken out, others are direct scans. ![]() http://books.google.com/books?id=76M...t&cd=2#PPT9,M1 Here's an exerpt(sp): Thirty spokes are joined at the wheels hub--
it is the empty that allows it to turn. Clay is used to make pots-- it is the empty hollow that retains objects. Doors and windows enclose a house-- it is the empty space that gives it form. Tools are used to create in a material world-- their usefulness is born from what doesn't exist. Ah, it is "this" that makes things useful |

i said i dont belive in true buddhism, so because OF that, i made sure i said i respect people who practice it. for example, there are people who say they dont belive in atheism, but they do not respect atheists. i was just clarifying thats not the case with me. i didnt say any about modern buddhism so i didnt think i have to say anything about that. for one thing, this can vary greatly from where you are from, china, india, japan, tibet, they all add different things in, so i decide to jsut stick with talkin about the basics. Okay, as far as this whole religion debate is I only have one thing to say..
I believe in God, but not the bible. I don't think that the color of text changes how important it really is.. especially since it was all written by men that were the same as you and I. When I think about the kind of men that possibly could've written (misinturpreted) parts of the bible, I picture men like David Coresh.. Not to say that I have anything against anyone for their religion, that's just the way that I see things. When I'm in what I consider to be serious distress, I pray to God and Jesus.. not to the people that have written down what they think God and Jesus said 2000+ years ago. BUT, I find books like Tao Te Ching to be more relaxing and would rather read them than the bible anyday. I find that it opens up the thought process instead of dragging it by a chain and forcing it to one direction. You can take from it something different every single time you read it. I respect just about every religion out there, I just don't respect the few people that give specific religions bad names. My aunt, for example, is a hardcore catholic. She uses everyone around her, treats her family like ****, lays around the house all day eating, won't let her children experience a normal life, and preaches to me every single time I see her about how I live my life wrong. She gives catholics a bad name, and no matter how ignorant it is, I will never step foot in a catholic church because of her. IDK what the point is of the last section of my post.. but I'm hungry.. it's peanut butter jelly time. |
