Powershifting (a.k.a. flat shifting, full throttle shift, or clutchless shift) is a method of shifting used with manual transmissions to reduce the time where the driving wheels are not powered.

Unlike a normal gearchange in a manual transmission, a powershift does not utilize the clutch at all. Instead, the gear lever is "ripped" from gear to gear. If tried with a road car, this can cause catastrophic damage if not selected in the right RPM range, especially if the gearbox doesn't have synchromesh.

This type of shifting is mainly used in racing applications with gearboxes that have been specifically designed for this purpose. In this application, powershifting does not put very much strain on the transmission; most of the stress is absorbed by the clutch and the rear differential.[citation needed] This is one of the reasons manual transmission cars break the differential more often than automatics.

as far as i know all u have to do is don't come off the gas when shifting.... i used to do it at the track all day but i found a better way to shift w/o that horrible feeling on the tranny...

side note... never power shift 2nd gear.... not impossible but it's very hard to do w/o grinding...

You have to have stupid good reflexes when WOT shifting.... Get to know the hell out of your car before you attempt this.

When I powershifted the rpms are so slow because of the DBW, i never hit the rev limiter anyways, either that or I shift quickly
