Help Lower Gas Prices.. NOT a "dont buy on a certain day" idea...

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one
of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s worth your
consideration.

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon
by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered
this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day"
campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just
laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves
by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a
problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really
work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking
gasoline
priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for
regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations
have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at
$1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS
control the
marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each
day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the
price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook b y not
purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How?
Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN
have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest
companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any
gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their
prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and
Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this
point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions
of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten
more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x
10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of
people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three
million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million
people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed
it..... THREE
HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you
don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send
this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician.
But I am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten
more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could
conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I
had that much potential, did d you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please
pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY
LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

Only one way to lower gas prices. Stop using it. Nothing else will work.

Unless you're going to make the president give this speech, good luck.

It would be nice if gas actually lowered... I'm tired of paying 3.40+ for 93 octane... My only concern is that I like Mobil gas... I might move to the shell V-Power...

That's all well and good but what about all the mobil and exxon gas station owners that you will put out of business? It's not their fault gas is up. All this would do is close down all the Mobil and Exxon stations since they won't have enough funds to operate. In return taking out the biggest company that helps keep prices low. Gas prices don't sky rocket because it isn't a monopoly, well if you get rid of the key person who can sell gas cheaper than the other companies, they won't need to keep their prices down anymore and gas will go UP.

It'd be like Home Depot and Lowes, both have lower prices than most other stores that sell the same type of things. If everyone was all pissy about the prices of things and decided to boycott Lowes, Lowes will go out of business. This, in return will relieve stress and competition on Home Depot and they can raise their prices with no resistance.

It is supply and demand, why is it so hard to understand that as long as we use up gas like it's nothing, prices will continue to increase, even more so as we slowly begin to run out of oil. If demand is high and supply is low, prices WILL NOT go down.

The only thing boycotting the biggest gas company will do is put regular decent hard working American companies out of business. What will Exxon and Mobil do? Sell their gas to the other companies.

going along with what arisenfury said, my roomate's family used to own a gas station and garage, they always lost money on the gas station end of things and had to try to make it up with the garage side of the business.

The only way we are going to do anything about gas prices is if Americans learn that they dont need vehicles like suburbans and excursions/expeditions. People are still driving around in and buying trucks with V8 motors to drive their kids around when a 4 5 or 6 cylinder van would easily accomplish the same tasks and burn much less gas.

not buying gas on 1 day does not have any affect.....eventually, you'll have to buy it so it makes 0 impact.

Buyers don't control the market as far as gas is concerned...the sellers do. They have the commodity, the public needs/wants the commodity. When the public ceases to need the commodity, the price will plummet. Until then, the price is going to do what the price is going to do, and nothing we do will shift that dynamic.

..in reality the idea makes much sense

it's not: not buying gas on a certain days, but instead not buying gas from the major distribuitors: Exxon & Shell..couldn't hurt to try..

Just to cite an example, look at what Bluckbuster had to do because of Netflix, they were forced to do the same online movie deals because Netflix was taking all their customers

the same could very well apply to gas companies, it's all about supply and demand

Don't mobil and exxon sell gas to other companies as well? A huge chunk of their profits are from selling to other smaller companies and competing companies as well; so he neglected to mention that.

And they also have other products than gas. And other companies hold large shares of ExxonMobil. It's going to take a lot more than a bunch of Honda Civic drivers not buying gas from Exxon and Mobil to hurt them and force a gas price drop.

Here's a wiki entry. You can do more research from there.

idk why people bitch about gas prices so much when they drive a civic. i mean shit i drive an Si and i drive it hard. on my last tank of gas i got 27 mpg and i did 3 passes at the track on the same tank. not to mention dicking around at every light w/ my buddy's on the way back and there are a lota lights. pluse every time i leave base i downshift 2 3rd and take it 2 redline going over the bridge... yet some how i still manage 27 mpg. yea it sucks that gas is expensive but i have yet 2 pay over 30 something at the pump for a full tank. i used 2 have 2 pay 40-50 in my old car putting in 87 and i get the same amount of miles outa my 30$ to fill on 93 so i'm not complaining at all... now if only i could get rid of my high ass car payment!

No matter what, gas will rise and rise and rise until there is no more. Then whatever cars run on by then, that will be the new "gasoline" and prices will be the same for that..
