Wife's kid-hauler search going surprisingly well!

Ok, so my wife decided she's outgrown her '02 Civic while trying to ferry around a 3 1/2 year old and a 3 month old and announced that she would start looking for a new vehicle. I have to agree with her on trading the Civ. It's a royal pain getting kids situated into it and stuffing the trunk with stroller etc when we go out.

She originally proposed that I trade my '06 Civ for the kid-hauler but dropped that idea really quickly once I told her where she could put it

So she starts looking around researching vehicles on the net. I walked in the door one day after work and she had the Toyota Sienna up on the laptop screen *shudder*. I absolutely REFUSE to drive a minivan. I'm 33 years young and see these poor guys my age driving these big honkin vans around that just scream 'whipped!' No way, uh uh.

Last night she said she narrowed down the list and I braced myself for impact. Here they are:

1) Mazda5
2) RAV4
3) CR-V
4) Saturn Relay

I'm shocked, more than a little surprised, and actually quite proud of my wife now The Mazda and Saturn fall into the van category but they're smallish and look decent for vans. Now I just need to steer her towards those small SUVs...

The '02 Civ served her well...remind her of that and point out the CR-Vs really cool feature set.

How about proposing (yeah...I know you aren't ready to that again) an element? With the suicide rear doors...it makes it real easy to plank kids in the car seats in the back seat (no B-pillar). Then with the versatility of the seats the Element will grow with you rather than against you. Just a thought. They have some sporty looking ones now...not just the basic grey plastic and body color anymore.

I think the choice has been made.

I would either go with the cr-v (for the above reason) or a used bmw x5. I really like those bimmers.

Heading to the Honda dealer now boi. I need to get Marvie's contacts for Mugen parts.

That is pretty cool...might have to look into that for a second vehicle. Thanks dude...I'm going to be broke because of you now.

CR-V mainly because I won't drive anything other than Honda. That and its a damn good looking automobile.

Out of that list, I'd go with the CR-V... and FYI, the Saturn Relay is no longer in production. None of GM's minivans are. Thank GOD!!

Anyway, what about a Pacifica? or a Passat wagon?

I like the new mazda Cx-9 or 7. Those are nice and look sporty too.

I also like the pacifica stated above. My family was about to get one but there are 3 kids and we needed something bigger, we got a honda odyssey.

The cx-9 is awesome IMO.. I love it. Boosted AWD kid hauler FTW!

There is a rumor that the Forester STi is going to be released here. I would definitely pick that up for soccor practice days.

Of the list I would go with the CR-V also, but you might also want to check out the Saturn Vue. I recently got an 04 Vue, V6 AWD. You can get some great deals on the 07 models. The best part about the 04-07 V6 Vue's is that they are powered by the same 3.5L V6 that is in the Pilot. They also use Honda's transmission. From experience and reading up, the Vue has performed well with out many issues. Good luck and stay strong.

We have a Mazda5 and it's been pretty good to us. We've had it for over a year and it's been trouble-free, which is more than I can say for my '07 Si sedan.

Go testdrive the cars on your list. The Mazda5 will out-handle all of them because it's essentially a taller Mazda3. Also, the sliding doors are very useful. We average about 26 mpg in mixed city/highway driving. The drivetrain isn't as refined as Honda or Toyota. There are rumors that a 5-spd auto is coming soon.
