NAFTA Below is a quote from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_A...rade_Agreement "Public opinion Public opinion in Mexico, Canada and the United States tends to be positive toward NAFTA. A July 2004 survey conducted by CIDE and COMEXI in Mexico showed that 64% of the Mexican public favored NAFTA. A Canadian poll conducted in June 2003 by Ipsos Reid found that 70% of Canadians supported NAFTA, while only 26% were opposed. The Program on International Policy Attitudes reported in a January 2004 poll that a 47% of Americans thought that NAFTA has been good for the United States, while 39% thought it had been bad for the country[34]. Despite their support for NAFTA, the polls in Canada and Mexico have tended to show that citizens see their own country as the loser in NAFTA, and to see the United States as the winner. The U.S. public has viewed Mexico as the winner and has been narrowly divided about whether the United States is a winner or loser in NAFTA" Things are changing some, almost 20 years later after NAFTA. I can see Hershey closing all its manufacturing plants in Canada but closing 4 plants in the US leaving left a downsized plant in PENN seems so Un-American. Throwing thousands of Americans out of work. Is this what NAFTA is all about? To employ thousands of Mexicans will certaintly please stockholders and Walmart. Our world is $$$ first oriented. F--- pride, quality, community. Milton Hershey made a good name for himself. He took care of his community. During an expansion he used unemployed people to do the digging costing him more $ and time than if he choose to use machinery for the excavation. That's the way he was. Everone knows "Hershey" as great American chocolate, not Swiss, not Belgium, but American . Now what will we think? Will this symbol of an American way be lost. Whos next? GM? ABC company etc etc. Think about it, your job right now can be done for $4 bucks in Mexico. Is this an agreement gone bad? Or will these business moves be good for the economy. Cheap goods for the man who still has a job. I don't know if my rantings have portrayed the point I'm trying to make. I love reece's peanut butter cups, whoppers and a whole slew of other Hershey product. The people who lost their jobs knew how to make chocolate. Past from generation to generation. Good luck Mexico, producing isn't just a recipe its knowing from experience. No longer will buy any Hershey product. Boycott. BTW Hershey stock fell today. It'll be completely worthless once the Mexican products hit the market. The CEO of Hershey doesn't care--hes collectin his millions NOW. Hershey goes tits up and the stockholder loses anyways.
