I'm thinking another older driver who panicked and pushed the wrong pedal in a moment of confusion. Easier to blame the brakes than yourself if you hurt a bunch of people because of an error. The diagonal brake system should've provided at least some braking. However, let the investigation proceed.

Thats what I'm thinking too. I think it should be easy to prove the brakes work fine. Sucks for old people everywhere though.

I heard this on the local news yesterday. Incredibly sad. They say that there's no evidence of any skidmarks on the road.

Even if the brakes did fail he should have at least tried to steer it into a parked car or something like that, anything but a bunch of kids.

went for tree because the brakes fail? why not just coast on teh road until you stop...or pull the emergency brake?

its not like this personw was traveling at a high rate of speed...at least he shouldnt have been since he was in a school zone and all.

just one more resaon why senior citizens should go in to reapply gor a drivers license when tehy get to a certain age.

this kind of reminds me of that epsidoe of south park when the old people crash into everyone....i think it was called "grey dawn"

When the driver is at fault, blame the car...

That way, you can avoid the consequences for your action and go right back and pursue legal action against the company who made the car and make some money...

Also, I don't understand why the driver decided to plow over a curb and into a tree where there were children. Emergency brakes, using the curb, or even hitting another car would've been a better decision no?

That happened here in the San Francisco Bay Area, right by where my brother lives. Must've been quite a frightening for the students, parents and school staff. The guy probably hit the brakes and the gas at the same time, thinking he was only hitting the brakes. My father has done that before (kids not involved). My neighbor has also plowed into my other neighbor's parked vehicle in the past while backing out of her garage because she thought she was pressing the brake when in fact she was pressing the gas. This is an unfortunate accident for all parties involved.
