A tunnel between Alaska and Russia? It's in the works...

I searched and didn't see this posted. Pretty ambitious stuff.

I'd be willing to bet that toll will be pretty hefty.

Somehow I think a several hundred mile long secured tunnel is a bit different than thousands of miles of unpatrolled open border.

My guess is security would be very tight with this thing. Or I should hope...

I didn't think that the western tip of Alaska was a big terror target.

Yeah, or New York to London. Talk about a road trip!

If they ever made that Trafalgar Bridge you could probably drive to Cape Town too.

Several hundred miles?

"A 6,000-kilometer (3,700-mile) transport corridor from Siberia into the U.S. will feed into the tunnel, which at 64 miles will be more than twice as long as the underwater section of the Channel Tunnel between the U.K. and France, according to the plan. The tunnel would run in three sections to link the two islands in the Bering Strait between Russia and the U.S."

Wups, I meant to refer to the corridor.

After all it is Siberia. I don't think there will be too many stops along the way so I imagine they'll have the whole thing patrolled.

I can't imagine getting through this thing would be that quick. Probably document and vehicle inspections as well as customs. I do wonder if it would be open to the public at first.

If they indeed do this, it will become a goal in my life to drive from Dallas to Russia regardless of the cost. I hate flying and I love road trips

Apparently enough people to warrant the construction of a tunnel.
