Dinner after graduation???
Hi All,
Well, I'm graduating from college on May 30, from CSULB. It's on a Wednesday at 5pm. I want to invite some friends, family, and coworkers. If I invite them to the ceremonty, am I obligated to take them to dinner or something? Also, if we all go out to eat, should I have to pay for everyone? I'm freaking broke, and have 12k in student loan I will soon have to start paying off. I want people to attend my graduation, but I dont wanna look cheap either. I dont have rich or nice parents that will cover for a dinner or reception. Is it rude to to tell everyone that its dutch (you pay for yourself)? Thanks for all your help and advice in advance. |

First off, you're inviting all those people to the ceremony? There's no limit? I thought it's usually 2-4 people limit. Anyways, I would say there shouldn't be a problem in going out for a nice dinner and having everyone pay for themselves. You just graduated, you're not money-bags Magoo. I think it would be idiotic and ignorant of them to expect you to pay.
And if they don't want to pay, screw them. My $0.02

Hey, first off congrats!!!
second, no i don't think its rude. and third, I would think that they would want to all pitch in and treat you... I mean graduating is a big thing, and I don't know where you work or how the social stuff goes, but at a few of my jobs they always asked for like $10 each for someone's b-day or wedding etc. And when you have a couple hundred of close co workers it can get extreme fast. The point is, its a comfort level. At first I was shocked when they first asked me for money, I was all "who are these guys and what did I walk into?" But you should always feel comfortable in expressing yourself. |

Cool thanks for all your opinions. There's some people at work that are like, "Well, if I'm driving all the way to Long Beach, there better be dinner."
I might just invite family for the ceremony and go out to eat with family on the Wednesday. Then, go out and party with friends on Friday night. And screw the people I work with. |
