Ticket "not in the system"

I got a fix-it ticket last month for not having a front plate (thank you, California!), and have been waiting for a courtesy letter explaining what to do next. Unfortunately, the Appearance date on the ticket is coming up soon. It's April 27th or 29th, 2007.

However, since the ticket very clearly reads that not-receiving a courtesy letter does NOT mean that I'm exempt from my court appearance, I called the county court to find out more information on my ticket and to get a confirmation for the date of that appearance, they couldn't find the ticket in the system. She said that "he hasn't turned that one in yet," and suggested that I call back next week. The only thing she could confirm is that I can rule out an appearance on the 29th, because that's a Sunday.

What are the odds that this one will slip through the cracks? Has anyone else ever had a ticket just... disappear?

5 minutes is better than the 45 minutes I just spent on hold waiting to speak with a real person.

I thought a fix-it ticket was correct within 72hrs and show it to an officer at the Dept? Why do you ahve to appear for a fix-it ticket? Or is it appear if you want to contest it...?

She said all that you should have to do on a Fix It Ticket is fix the part..show your ticket to a Police officer (any officer can do this, does not have to be the one that wrote the ticket.) Hope this helps. I love having a G/f in the court system, with her job status, when the police go to run our plates on all of our cars, it comes up "Private" and he knows that she works for the courts. i never get tailed for long, do not know if this is why it helps but it sure is a good feeling LOL.

That's just it... all I have is the original ticket that I signed for No Front plates and my signature below a court appearance date. I haven't gotten any further instructions on what else to do. He said I'd be getting a letter in the mail explaining all of that.

Sort of off topic, but I just moved to Cali from AZ and don't have any brackets or holes drilled in my bumper for a front liscense plate; nor do I want to put holes in my bumper.

Questions if anyone can answer these:
1) is putting a plate in your front windshield ok, or is bumper a must?
2) if one has to put it on the bumper, is the grill opening ok?
3) with a fix-a-ticket for such a thing, where do you mount the plate?
4) does anyone else drive around cali without front plates?

No i do not drive without a plate in the front. The cops here seem to be more apt to pull you over for these stupid things than speeding lol..as far the install..id zip tie it to my grill that way when I wanted Pics..etc etc ..I could easily remove it,.I am sure there are better methods than this, but you would be surprised what a thin line of foam, some double stick tap, and some zip ties can do. LOL

1) It MUST be fixed to the front bumper - visible and not moving.
2) Doesn't matter how you attach it as long as it can't move.
3) As mentioned, I may be needing some zip ties.
4) MANY people drive without plates. It's not always enforced.

what part of CA are you guys from? I live in the east bay, and drive without my front plate, but I am beginning to re-think it.

hey tim, i've gotten many a fix it tickets for busted tail light, license plate, headlight out. all you have to do is take your original ticket to any department. Get it signed by an officer, who will come out and check to make sure you've corrected the violation. then from there, you take it to the county court and pay the $25 fix it ticket fee. that's all you gotta do. hope that helps.

You can get the bracket from a dealership no problem, and no drilling is necessary, all you need to install your front plate is the bracket, hardware, two hands and a socket kit.

For some reason dealers have been drilling bumpers i guess as an incentive to make you keep your front plate on.

I bought my car in PA where there are no front plate requirements, but am registered in MD where i have to have one, I put it on in about 5 min in a parking lot no problem

I guess what I'm trying to ask is... if it's not in the system, and if he's not going to turn in paperwork, and noone has any further paperwork or records on this alleged ticket, what would happen if it were to be "lost?"

More than likely it is sitting on someones desk, I am sure if you show up at the court house with the signed ticket they will find it for you.

This is an old thread but i just got here. I got a ticket for no front plat in sacramento. It was not a fix it ticket and i had to pay it. I also more recently got a ticket for speeding. I never got a courtesy notice until about 2 weeks to the court date which was a good 2.5 months since the violation. I was thinking I had no ticket since it registered as not in the system. I checked constantly on the county website and the call in number. They are probably just baiting you to pay it late with a 200% markup.
