Im planning to buy a deck for mixing but Im a total newbie. I want something from the bottom shelf, can someone help me out with the choice. Do the new decks use vinyls, cuz I would rather want the ones that generate songs from PC's (if there are any of that type)

I'd suggest starting on some cheap-o turntables(vinyl).

Once you get a feel for it, play around with CDJ's. They have their uses and advantages, as well disadvantages.

Get cheap TT's at first, but dont skimp out on a cheapo mixer. Get something nice.

ps - research Serato for PC manipulation

Yeah, its fun to tweak with samples and stuff.

But its another investment to get a laptop to get it mobile.

If you can save up a few extra bucks, id grab some Technics MKII's.

Just swing by a Guitar center or equivalent and see what they have used.

For Serato, look a few posts above.

In terms of mixers, id recommend DJM-800. Theyre getting more commonplace and have GREAT effects and fairly easy to use/understand.

Get a decent amp and some speakers. If you dotn want to, just hook it up to your home stereo system, it wont sound quite as it should or as clean, but for a beginner, its acceptable.

repped for the sublime reference

sublime>all in my book. Bradley Nowell was such an amazing musician.. his beats were cool, his guitar was incredible, and his voice was better than any other reggae/punk band I've ever heard. Hell, if he were alive now he'd probably be the only guy on rock radio that actually wears pants from the mens section and sounds like a guy.
