DSLR Camera Tripod?

I've got a Digital SLR (canon digital rebel) and have been shooting alot of photos lately of BMX with my friends. I like tinkering around with uber-slow shutter speeds, but really need a tripod for this since I shake like I have tourette's. I was looking through BB's site and there are tripods from $20-500. Any reason why I shouldn't buy one that's cheap, or why I should buy one that's more expensive? I'm not sure what major feature can make a tripod so much more expensive.

Manfrotto all the way! *grins*

Tripods are manufactured for different purposes. Usually the more expensive ones have better heads, stronger and light weight. For Slrs almost any tripod will do, just remeber if you start adding a longer lense, bigger flash, etc. You're adding weight to the camera and also to the load for the tripod. (you don't want the legs to give in or the head to release)
I've got some different tripods, and a mono pod. 1 small tripod for tabel top, a light weight one for long days of walking around doing stuff at shows and outside work, a heavier one for using in studio and a mono pod for scrums.

I'm sure the cheaper ones are great (the cheapest one I have cost $10, and the most expensive one I have is about $110) I have one that caast me $20 came with carrying bag and some other stuff, and it still works great (it's over 10yrs old now)

Just my 2 cents

Okay, so in your opinion, the biggest factor I need to consider is weight (of the camera & accessories on it)?

Agreed with Leo.

I'm using this Manfrotto head:

Mounted on a Manfrotto aluminum base with a column and a built-in level.

Mainly, you want somethign not cheap, best to go to a camera store, and ry them, see which one you like, set it up, adjust it, etc. See how fluid the head is for moveing, if it's easy to adjust for you, every person has their tastes, what you may liek I would find a little uncomfortable, or vise versa.

You want something to last, and if you are doing BMX stuff, you want something that will take a bit of a lickin if it gets run over *grins*

My cousin's brother in-law is a photojournalist for the Seattle Times... he has the hookup! I paid ~$100 for it.
