Got pulled over for tint this morning...

So, I woke up early to get to work early so I could leave early Friday. On my way to work I got pulled over for my window tint. It was a state trooper, not local police. I've had my tint since last June.

Legal Limit is 32%
I paid for 20%
I have 16% according to the cop.

I can't say I'm upset because I should've known sooner or later it was going to happen. However, I can't believe that it's 16%...

Regardless, I have the choice of paying the $130 fine and take the chance on getting pulled over again, or have the tint removed or increased and pay no fine.

It'll cost me $160 to get 32% put on like I have, plus $20 for lifetime warranty. I don't know how much it'll cost to get it pulled off.

I'm thinking about just paying the fine and take the chance. I have a couple friends who have done this and they haven't gotten pulled over a 2nd time....yet.

So, now I've gotta think of stuff I have at home to sell so I won't have to pay this out of pocket.

The 16% comes from the fact that your factory glass has around 3 to 5% already, normally.

I was kind of mad when I took our cars in to have them tinted. The new limit here is 25%, and the guy would only put on 30%. Then he explained the factory tint to me

I feel for you. Sorry.

I've never even heard of Hopewell Jct. Must be a nice little sleepy town. It's not much better where I live or in VA.

So, take the tint off and get 32%, or just pay the fine?

actually they have tint laws for the police officers safety....if the tint is too dark, the cop cant see inside....occupant of the car could have a gun.....

I live here in Cali were we can't have our front windows tinted. Yet, every other car i see has one. They toy with me mocking me to get my fronts tinted yet i know as soon as i do ill get rolled. But hey im gonna do it anyway.

Its tough to say what to do. Personally i would hate to have to take it back in to get it tinted again. But that would be the cheapest option in the long run, cause im sure youll get pulled over again sometime down the road.

The cops here in Idaho are so anal, when i first moved here I got pulled over for going 72MPH in a 65 Zone at 11:30 @ Night (No Traffic), not using a turn signal on a road so empty all I could see was what my headlights shone on.

Both times the cops were hiding, the turn signal cop was hiding in a church parking lot with all his lights off, and the secound one was hidding in some tall dry grass in the median or the highway. We have so many cops and our towns population is 23,000.

That might be the case but thats to assume everone has a gun ready to shoot the cops. And hey there are those ppl out there that do that but they usualy already have a record and just don't want to go back to jail when they get pulled over. I just can't stand how the laws always screw the honest ppl.

if you don't want pay the fine then, don't tint it illegally. Sure, I could go rob a bank and might get away with it. But I don't know....I might go to jail for it...what do you guys think? Should I go ahead and do it? I could end up getting caught and end up and jail for years. But I don't want to end up in jail. I think I can get away with it. And even if I do get caught, when I get out I can try it again and might get away with it.....

If you want to do it, do and it....but you may have to end up paying for it.

Wow, that was a completely useless response. I wasn't pitching a fit about getting the ticket, or even saying I shouldn't have known that it was going to happen.

I was just venting because i did get a ticket for it. I was also seeking advice on whether I should pay the fine, or remove the tint and apply legal tint.

that was my advise, if you can pay for the next ticket and want to keep your tint then keep them....just don't be surprised when you get pulled over a second or third time around...no point on venting when your doing something illegal, I'm not sure there is justification for "looks so stealthy > life of a officer"

The only options available when I got it was 35% or 20%. I figured I'd go with 20% and be fine...guess not.

I'm going to call today and see how much it costs to get it pulled off. If it's a good bit, I'm going to take my chances.
