more v tec from honda(sport bikes)
if anyone is interested in what the other honda industry is up too,
i was reading in my ride red mag. that honda(not the auto. idustry) is very impressed with the i v tec and the power they are amble to make along with great gas mileage. They are planning to build new engines for sport bikes, dirt bikes, quads, boats and jet skis that have the v tec idea from v tec car engines. They also gave a short decription of a new sport bike for 08 or 09. A cbr 600 that has 200hp(not sure what there rated at now). I wonder what the cbr1000 with bush out in the future. |

Real VTEC, instead of that crap on the Interceptor?
Here's a little blurb on Kawasaki's pseudo-VTEC: http://motorcycledaily.com/05march07...rsvariable.htm I call BS. CBR600RR is rated at 120-125 or so crank HP. So obviously I'm skeptical that they could jump 60% and have an engine producing 330+ HP per liter with just the addition of VTEC. 2.4 liter V8 Formula One engines, with the most exotic engine materials, 19K redlines, and Pneumatic valves, produce 300-315 HP/liter. Source? A CBR1000RR rated at 200 HP would still be remarkable at a 12% jump (200 HP per liter). However, a VFR1200 or CBR1300XX would be more likely to hit 200. The most powerful production sportbike ever, stock, the ZX-14, boasts 1352cc and doesn't quite reach 200 HP crank. Also, 50+ MPG? For a sportbike? The average is probably 30 to 40. 20s are not hard with a couple mods and hitting it harder than average. Last edited by Nepenthe; 03-22-2007 at 05:35 PM. |

Well first off liter and 600cc sportbikes don't get 50 MPG. IF you take it easy on them then 36-45 MPG depending on the bike, but no 50.
2nd, they won't make a 600rr with 200HP, hell the 1200's don't make that kind of power. Honda has said that in the future, they want to add VTEC to every bike in their model lineup. So far the only bike is the test mule, the VFR, and the VTEC system on that bike really doesn't do much. But the VFR is the testbed as always, it was the first bike to have production FI, that was in '98. They did good with it too, I owned one for a few years. Honda needs to step it up with the 1000, the 600 is pretty good where it's at right now as far as competition goes. I'm really hoping they finally make the V5 or make a new V4 CBR. |
