Who uses 56k anymore?!

I always see threads saying (no way 56k) (56k go read a book)

But honestly who uses 56k anymore? I remember that back in like 1995.

I was connecting through my school's remote access from my apartment at 33.1K as late as 2002. It booted me off automatically every 60 minutes and then took 30-90 minutes to get back in. Fun stuff. The dirt-poor grad student days...

I now live in Keller, test site for Verizon FIOS, but unfortunately I still live in an apartment, and we're discriminated against and forced to use a crappy co-op (it's 2Mbps though). Starting work on a house soon, FIOS will be integrated in most rooms.

I think it's funny when kids in highschool and college laugh at people with dialup when their parents pay for the cable/dsl.. and housing.. education.. food.. car.. payments... gas.. insurance.. the list continues..

I'm on dial-up right now because the wi-fi at the hotel I'm staying at isn't working properly.

I sometimes log on here with a 128kb connection I also know a few people who still have 56kb (one lives in the middle of nowhere Wisconsin, and the other doesn't want to pay for high speed)

Most students at my school live in off campus student housing, and some of the internet is horrible cause you get some cheap idaho landlord that buys one cable line for 200 residents, all of which are constantly downloading via LimeWire. Its comes out to a 3K connection, try turning images off in your web browsers options for a while.

SO I moved to a smaller apartment complex (9 apts in total) and the manager is totally anal about his internet (cause he is a Senior IS student) and hell I can't even watch Lost on ABCs website, no limewire, no nothing. Port 80 HTML is about all that is open here, but atleast the internet is quick.

BTW, I pay for all my expenses, but then again I have a free ride from a little inheritance since my dad died a few years back. Only enough to get through a becholors degree in Idaho though (I'm from Riverside CA)

The house i rent that is not wired for cable at all so i have to use ATT DSL at a max of 1.5 megs. They are basily refusing to up grade the neighborhood to 3.0 meg or 6 meg. I used to play games online when they were good on 1.5 and even 56k (Half Life rules) but not any more. O well. The last time i used 56K was 2000.
