Gving jump starts

Alright whats the deal on jump starts. Are they bad for your car? Last night some chick in a parking lot asked me to give her a jump start and i said i didnt know how but then i felt kinda bad

With my old car i used to always give people jump starts. But now with my Si i'm a little reluctant to do so. Partly because someone i know keeps telling me that jump starts are bad for your car.

you don't know how to give a jump start?...THAT's pathetic!

Jump starting 101:
1 - Take jumper cables out of trunk
2 - Make sure cars are faced bonnet to bonnet
3 - Open each car's hood
4 - Attach RED cable to each car's POSITIVE terminal
5 - Attach Black cable to dead car's negative terminal or a metal surface of the car
6 - Attach the remaining black cable to your vehicle's negative terminal or metal surface. (you might notice a small spark, just don't be timid with your connections)
7 - Rev your engine above idle (about 2k rpms) so the alternator kicks in to charge the dead battery
8 - Start your car....then try and start their's
---

Or if you are crazy and in a hurry, take out your battery, and turn it upside down, and touch your pos and neg terminals to their pos and neg terminals (same polarity ONLY). I heard that this is dangerous, but effective. Make sure if you do this that you are not using a wet cell battery, otherwise you'll get battery juice all over your new friend's car and your hands...I can't imagine that it would be all that good.

thats a retarted idea. would take longer to unbolt the battery than to hook up the cables

Relax guys, i know how to give a jump start. I just felt bad telling her "no". She was stuck in a parking lot alone at like 1 in the morning. So i pretended i didnt know how.

So the only negative effect is draing my battery? how badly does it drain it?

How do you rev your engine above 2k before starting it?

That's why I don't carry jumpers though. That way I can't feel bad when I say no.

I had to jump start my Civic yesterday. I had been working on it most of the day. Replaced rear wheel bearing. cleaned it up and replaced the cabin and intake air filters. I had the stereo on most of the day and would start it every 30 mins or so to charge the battery. Well late in the day I forgot. The stereo started turning its self on and off. Whoops... battery dead. Pulled the Ranger up next to it. Hooked the cables up listened to the Rangers alt. load up and started the Civic.

Jump starting the lady wouldn't have hurt your car at all if done right. If done wrong,,, lots of damage.

You should have at least stayed with her and seen to it she was helped out. What a tool.....

Not bad for the car at all, just drains the battery a little.

Depends on what you are trying to jump start.. Don't try to jump a vehicle larger than yours, bossman had a Yukon, our mobile died (mobile studio) it needed a jump, so bossman thought, ha ha , I will jump it with my truck. bad idea, burnt out his battery, destroyed the thing *grins* , poor Yukon, mobile needed to be towed and his truck needed a new Battery. M'eh it's all good.

Hot girl needs jump = for surely, even if you're married.. it's good Karma to help anyone in trouble, especially if it's at 1am in the morning and they are in need of assistance.

Now i'm a tool, lol

Its not my duty to help her. could i have? yes. Plus i was going somewhere. Anyway reason i didnt do it is because one of my friends keeps telling me that it will screw up my car if i give jump starts. I guess i now know its not that big of a deal to give a jump. I do regret not doing it though

So you just left her there?

I'd have at least called a tow-truck, or maybe given her a ride or something.
