ohh yea one more thing to add on, if you want to save some money. go around and look for the same model that you want and see if sears or any other store would price match with you.

i beg to differ... sort of. right now i have a panasonic 42" plasma. the bad thing is, i occasionally get some burn in. the good thing is that it's not permanent and goes away after watching something else for a few minutes. they might have fixed that already, i don't know.

other than that though, i really love my plasma. that's just a minor inconvenience (for me at least - i only notice it when i play racing games and the timers are in the corner). most of the important info has already been stated in this thread (720p vs 1080i, etc)

honestly though, i would drop the few extra bucks it takes to get a model with 1080p just to be ready for the next big thing or if you have other hi-def devices that are native in that resolution.

hope that helps. if not, you can always ask more questions lol

hahaha, well thanks guys but the other main question i had was about the 720p and 1080p difference. Can you tell a difference when sitting from 10-15ft. away, because i heard that you can only tell the difference when close up to the tv.

1080p definitely looks a lot smoother imo, and sitting away 10-15ft, you'll definitely see a difference that you can appreciate.

maybe you won't notice any difference if this would be your first 720p experience, but as you use it more and more you start to see the difference.

in short, yes, you can see the difference although you may not see it at first.

Yes, if you've never seen HD before, you'll be very happy with 720p, but if you want the bleeding edge of technology, get an excellent plasma display that does 1080p and it's like looking out a window.

Any of you retail types have any input regarding the Samsung 61" 1080p Slim-Depth LED Engine DLP HDTV?

I'm leaning towards one of these due to the size and price. Most 1080p LCD tv's that I look at seem to cost twice as much as this set (usually around $2500-$2700). I'm trying to stay away from Plasma due to the burn in issue even though a lot of people say it's improved it's not really something I want to worry about. Looking for something to watch movies and play games on. Also, with the 3 LED lights vs the 1 bulb issue I don't think I'd need to replace the bulb every couple of years like they do on the DLP projection tvs.

This TV would be in the living room. I have a 42" 1080 LCD mounted in my game room.

If you're putting it in a room that is brightly lit most of the time, then go with the 1080p LCD display.

^^ I agree with that. So does the LED thing mean that they fixed the viewing angles on the DLPs?

One of the turnoffs from my buying a DLP was the viewing angle...

I was thinking about that DLP with led bulbs also, it looks pretty good. Hope someone has it and can review it.

DLP = moving pixels. You will always see a flutter or shaking in the screen if you watch it closely. That's DLP, no matter the resolution or style of bulb. The LED bulbs are nice so you don't have to buy new bulbs every couple years but LED's only last about 20k hours so it's not as long as a flat panel. The only TV I'd buy right now is the SXRD by Sony. Why? Because I still care about picture quality and not so much about how thin it is. It's the best fixed pixel device out.
