Civic, F-Series trucks are Canada's most popular
March 15, 2007 BY ALEJANDRO BODIPO-MEMBA FREE PRESS BUSINESS WRITER The Honda Civic and the Ford F-Series pickups were the most popular vehicles in Canada last month, according to a report from an Ontario-based analyst. The Dennis Desrosiers Report listed the Top 10 selling vehicles in Canada for the month of February and found that 3,208 Civics were sold north of the border, while Ford’s F-Series, which includes the F-150, sold 4,986 units. Following the Honda Civic, the rest of the passenger cars on the list were the Mazda 3, Chevrolet Cobalt, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Yaris, Pontiac Pursuit/G5, Ford Focus, Toyota Camry, Dodge Caliber and Nissan Altima. Honda’s dominance in the segment has been eroded over the years, as several new entries are making headway with Canadian consumers. “It is very early but for the first time since 1999, the Honda Civic is being challenged for the position of best-selling passenger car,” said Desrosiers, an auto analyst and publisher of the report. He notes that Civic sales were down 20% last month compared to a year ago, while sales of the Mazda 3 were up nearly 25%. On the light truck and crossover side, Desrosiers said the Dodge Caravan, GMC Sierra, Dodge Ram Pickup, Chevrolet Silverado, Ford Ranger, Ford Escape/Hybrid, Hyundai Santa Fe, Chevrolet Uplander and Honda CR-V rounded out the Top 10. “The consumer is still moving towards small entry-level vehicles which were up 9.1% on the month and 12.5% on the year,” Desrosiers said. “And the consumer is still moving away from midsized family vehicles which are down 12.3% on the month and 12.8% on the year.” For a complete list of the vehicles, go to www.desrosiers.ca. |

Don't get me started on Desrosier! I have heard him speak at our school twice... He is one of the most arrogant people and he just makes everyone else look stupid. I have no respect for him, his numbers or anything that has to do with him. The way that they segment vehicles is really messed up... I am taking a Bachelor of applied business in automotive management so we analyze these numbers all the time... Some of the stuff he publishes makes no sense, I don't have a particular example off hand.
I also have a teacher that I cannot stand and do not get along with what so ever that says his name no word of a lie more than 10 times per class with a high of 25 times... Yes we keep track. Sorry for the rant. The other thing about Ford F-series and how they are the best selling... Combine GMC and Chevrolet trucks and it outsells Ford F-series. (Not bashing Ford as I have been a Ford truck guy for a long time, just stating facts.) |
