Harassment?

Saturday Febuary 10, 2007
Time: 9:30Pm

I was driving, back from picking up the girl, so that we could to go the mall. I stop at a red light. Like we all do everyday. Wait for the red light to turn green. (Jeopardy theme song) Yay green light. So I take off. A NORMAL take off. As IM driving down the road I look in my rear view mirror and see a cop. Instantly (like we all do) I look down at the MPH and IM going 45. Posted speed limit is 45 OK. So I look back in the rear view and the cop is right on my ass. So I look to my left (IM in the right lane and its a two lane road) and don't see another car. So I look back at the cop. When I look I see light spot light just flicker on in my eyes. So IM going OK he just hit the button or maybe IM in his way. I put my blinker on and get in the left lane. Next thing I know he swerves over and puts the red and blues on and the spot light on. Now at first IM thinking Man this dude is crazy IM driving and this guys got a BLINDING spot light on my eyes. WTF!! So of course I pull over, shut the car off, and pull up the E-BRAKE. At this time IM a little bit pissed. going 45 and having a blinding spot light sucks. (to get this affect drive down a road at night a take a flash light, You know the kind that take the D batteries. not just one D size battery but 3 D size batteries) And have your passenger put it right up to your eye ball and turn it on) But IM cool as he walks up to my window. Story follows.
Cop- License and registration.
Me- Yes sir, May I ask why IM being pulled over?
Cop- You were speeding and your exhaust is illegal.
Me- Sir I was stopped at the stop light and my exhaust is stock.
Cop- No you were speeding. I had to do 85 to catch up to you. And yes your exhaust is illegal. And its loud.
Me- Sir by no means was I speeding. And my exhaust is stock.
Cop- Have you ever been pulled over for speeding in this car. And have you ever had an exhaust ticket.
Me- No Sir I haven't been pulled over for speeding in this car, and no I haven't been pulled over for my exhaust. If you would like I can call Honda and you may talk to them about my exhaust. (handed him my Honda Dealer car)
Cop- I'll be right back. (never taking the card)
5 mins later
Cop- Sir sense I don't have radar IM gonna have to let you go on that. But your exhaust isn't stock.
Me- Yes Sir my exhaust is stock. If you want I can call My Honda Dealership where I bought the car from and we can talk with them.
Cop- No that's OK I will take your word for it, But IM just letting you know you WILL be getting pulled over again for your exhaust again. So I advice you to get something that says your exhaust is legal.
Me- Yes Sir I will do that.
Cop- Have a good night Sir
Me- You to officer.

I will be going to my Honda dealership to see if they can give me anything that says my exhaust IS legal. I was very nice the whole time to the Officer. But I was wondering has anyone had this Problem? Or am I the first. I mean damn I know our cars are loud when they hit 5800 but I was barley getting to 4grand. But If I do get some paper work on the Si's exhaust being legal I will post it on here. And I will be sending straight to the Officer that pulled me over tonight. Man what a week

Sounds pretty weak to me. I think that officer had nothing better to do than mess with some import driver. It's guys like this that give cops a bad name.

Everyone expects CA to be tough on this kind of stuff but in SD it seems like cops dont care. Ricers all over the place with fart cans up the ying yang. Ricers are funny, they see a kid in an si and suddenly whoop i hear some 6th gen VTEC

Did he have a decibel meter? If not, and I got a ticket, I'd fight in in court.

That's factory exhaust or not - nothing more bogus than having a cop make a subjective judgment on whether or not you're breaking the law.

I have always thought the same thing...

and to the op, do you have the HFP exhaust, or the completely stock one? If it's just stock, then the cop was most likely just bored and feeling dick-ish.

I would have told him to give me the ticket so my lawyer could make him look like an ass in court.

its a possibility he saw a car similar to yours speeding adn very loud, that was way up ahead of you at the time you got stopped, and maybe he confused you for it... just a possibility, happens
