sunglasses.

does anyone remember or know what the name of these sunglasses that turn clear in the sunlight and then change to black in the daylight..?

I think you mean they turn clear in low light and dark in the sun. Anyway I think they are called transitions.

I believe the general term is "photochromic." Everything else is just a brand name.

they do not get dark inside cars because they work with UV light, which most car windows block.

Transitions is just one brand, albeit the biggest. Corning sold these as "photogrey" and "photobrown." I had a pair of "photogreys."
