Anyone here live in Torrance, CA????????????

What's going on guys and gals?

My wife and I have recently been considering in maybe moving to Cali. I'm hispanic, but my wife is Japanese and recently she's been hinting at moving there so she can visit her family more easily, who live in Tokyo. I was doing a little research online and it appears that Torrance has a large Japanese community and it appears to be a nice town. It's also close to LA Int. Airport, which is a big plus for her. The main issue for me is how safe Torrance is. We're a young married couple, who are planning to have kids in a year or two, so safety is a concern for me. Especially since there are certain towns, like Compton, that are so close. I live in Edgewater NJ, which is a pretty safe and small town. It has the largest JDM community around here. But I used to live close to Newark, which was on the top 25 most dangerous cities last year(Compton was on the list too).

I don't know anyone who lives near Torrance, but I was thinking someone on 8th Civic does. I wanted to know, in your own words, what do you think of Torrance? Do you think it's a safe place? Are you happy there? Do you wish you were somewhere else? That sort of thing.

Any replies you can give me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!!!!!!

Torrance is a nice place to live. I have family who live there now. if you can afford it Oahu, Hawaii is good too. I was think of moving to Cali, and Torrance was one of those place I was thinking of. But homes cost more than Hawaii and are much older too. So I would have you do a little more homework and go out and visit there. Good luck on your move.

... and if you move to Torrance, you'll only be 40 minutes away from Irvine CA which is the headquarters of Meguair's. You can go there every week for a free detailing DIY from the pros.

orange country, especially the south area (irvine, lake forest, laguna hills, laguna beach, newport beach etc.) has the safest neighborhood in the whole south california.

we also have an airport here and it's about 20 miles from torrance, 25 from LA and 35 at LAX.

and the most important of all, we have minnie and mickey mouse here.

torrance is probably one of the safest areas in the southbay. crime is not an issue here. in fact, the only major gripe i have about torrance is its infestation of cops (you will find it hard to enjoy a little spirited driving without getting beamed or pulled over).

there is a pretty large asian community, but gardena, which is right next to us, has a huge japanese demographic. there's a korean church here that used to have the largest korean membership in the united states in the 90s.

there has been a whole lot of condo development lately, so finding housing probably wont be an issue (if you dont mind condos). likewise, ive never seen traffic this bad in torrance in my life, but only during rush hour times around 3-6.

we're also next to the beach, which is nice.

torrance used to have the largest shopping mall (again, in the 90s), but now it's pretty outdated. a development agency bought it out last year, and is renovating the entire mall to target a more upscale audience. they created an entire new outdoor wing just last year, which also made way for a new AMC movie theatre, so that place sees a lot of people on the weekends.

all in all, i think torrance is a good place to live. no crime, coastal, great weather. we also have some cool car culture: hondata, stoptech and tanabe have their headquarters here (free reflash, BB kit and touring medallion!! i wish..). toyota has their corporate HQ here, and honda even has their R&D branch here, also. yeah, everyone here already knows how the new NSX and s2000 look like, but we're good at keeping a tight-lip.

Wow! Thanks for the replies guys. I really appreciate it. I might be planning to visit Torrance next month. It seems an interesting place, but I guess the best thing to do is go visit it itself.
