Tip your server

I just want to tell everyone to tip your server. In WI servers make $2.33 an hour plus tips. We also have to tip out the bar, food runners, and the bussers. If you come in and don't tip- we are actually paying for you to eat there. So please remember tip your server.

Tracy- who had a bad night last night.

Been there....$20 pay check lol. Been a while since I waited tables, but I pretty much always tip 25% and higher. Unless the server is sucks, and I don't mean the retraunte is slammed busy and they can't help it (I've been there). But when I'm 1 of maybe 2 table's and I get awful service... suck it.

I bused and waited tables in my younger days. I always give at least 20%, unless the server was the pits. then they get 15% or even maybe 10%. I've never left nothing.

I tip until I start to feel like its "expected" because you brought me food. I guess I stop when it seems to fall to me to subsidize the server's lack of income, or poor career choice. I'm sorry that they get paid what they do, but that's pretty good incentive to be exceptional at what you do (to EARN the tip) or, find another line of work. I do understand that many many times a server offers exceptional service and get's stiffed because someone's a cheap ass and thats pretty crappy.
In this age of plastic cards and less "cash" I've been caught many times with no cash on me. Places like Golden Corral (buffet type place for those that don't know) and I've been in a jam and just not left a tip, because I had nothing to give. And I've felt pretty bad about it too.

I know what you guys mean, I'm a server at a resturant. I've had so many tables that tip nothing. Some people are generous so it's not bad.

I am not saying I am a bad server. I get told I do an awesome job by many people. I enjoy what I do, and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. After school is done- then I will be out of there.

I don't work on the floor (main dining room) very often, but when I do I usually have a good night. I mostly work iin the Banquet rooms as a Banquet Captain (me in charge woohoo) so all my banquet tips are put on my paycheck.

My girlfriend is a server and has been one for years so I have heard many bad bad stories of people she breaks her back for that leave her practicly nothing! For example she will have a 4 or 5 person table that runs up a 150+ dollar tab and leave her like 5 bucks. Thats only like 3 or 4 percent which BLOWS BIG TIME.

Always tip the server!!!

+1 :)

I had a good friend that paid her way through college by waiting tables. Since meeting her, I've always been overly generous. Eat at home if you can't afford to tip your server.

Tipping shouldnt be expected, but earned.

Frankly- If i have a good meal, i'll let the server know and tip her well. If the service sucks, why should i tip her?

But around here, most servers make minimum wage + tips (minimum wage is like 750 or 8 bucks).

I remember I left a 50 for a 35 dollar check. I only did it because I was in a rush to get somewhere. I usually tip minimum 15%, but usually give 20 even if the service sucked.

sorry, but it is a tip... if you want tips give great service... i worked for tips for 10+ years. lately the servers i have had. treat(ed) me and my wife like crap. for what seemed as if we were interrupting their day. that is a 'no tip' situation.

i always over tip, 30% min. but only if the server rocks. he or she should almost read the customers minds. and you can tell if they are having a bad night or just a bad server. i also fell the server should sell themselves. if they are not a people person then they picked the wrong job.

i loved working for tips... i always had cash!!! i used to get 60 - 120 a night in tips

but some people are just cheap asses!!! and they flat out suck.

hey a tip for fellow waiters and waitresses. If you are in need of money but find that your restaurant is not giving you enough customers to make the money you need, try working at a country club. I worked at a country club as a waiter and I got paid $9 an hour. The members of the country club pay a fee which helps pay for the waiters and cooks and bartender which means they aren't supposed to tip but here is where it gets awesome....On friday, saturday, and sunday nights, most of the time, at least the country club where I work, they will tip you if you are courteous and show them excellent service and trust me, when they tip you, they tip you BIG. how does making $200 in 3 hours sound? Oh by the way, I'm a guy so I'm sure you ladies will be able to make much more than I am with you girls being oh so cute and flirting with customers haha.

I completely agree.

This tipping business doesn’t jive well with me – why should I leave you more money than what’s listed on the menu? That’s like paying over MSRP!!! That said, you’ll have to work hard for me to give you the customary 15% tip.

Provide prompt, attentive, and appropriate service and you will be tipped appropriately (by me at least). The extent of your tip will depend on the service you provide. My server should be as close to the butler from "Mr. Deeds" as possible (at least at the dining establishments which I freqent). Service timely, needs met, invisible until you are needed, my wine glass should never be empty, etc.

I have, and continue to, tip well over "20%" for excellent service. However, if you cock up my $300+ meal you and your manager will know about it, and don't expect a tip. You are not getting one. If you are too busy because your establishment has not allocated your covers/tables appropriate, that's not my problem. If you are 'having a bad day' I don't care. I don't care if you make sqaut for base pay. I expect (good or excellent) service, for which I will tip quite well.

DONE. However, while I am usually supportive of the moderators 'moderation' that is far from the most offensive thing I have read in the last few days that has not been moderated. How is it that threads wherein forum members propose that 'all cops should die horrible deaths' (while eventually locked) are allowed to go on for several pages, yet one comment, made in macabre jest is poucned upon?

I am beginning to agree with some of our former members that moderation is getting a bit heavy handed. My opinion, take it for what its worth.

When you see all the thoughtless, selfish assholes on the road, think about who is eating out and what they tip. My favorites are the holy rollers who leave Bible verses or other religious crap rather than money.

For my part, I always leave at least 15% unless you really suck, then I'll just leave some pocket change.
