Nacho graduates puppy class! (Lots of Corgi pics)
We enrolled Nacho in puppy class at Petsmart a couple months ago. We were there to pick up some things and one of the trainers asked if we wanted to sign him up, so we did. Eight classes later, Nacho has come a long way. He can sit, lay down, jump, come, stay, and he's OK with take it and leave it. We're going to start intermediate class in a few weeks. The class started with eight puppies but half of them stopped coming. Only two showed up today besides Nacho. Nico the English Springer Spaniel, and Scone the Westie. Anyway, now for the pics!
![]() Nacho and daddy. ![]() Nacho in his cap. Wait, that's not right. ![]() Ah, that's better. ![]() Nacho and Nico love to play when we let them. Scone usually thinks she's too good to play with the others. ![]() Nacho and Nico were playing while the magic rope was floating through the air. Seriously, I can't explain this picture. ![]() Scone decided to come play with Nacho and Nico. ![]() Nacho saying hi to Scone's daddy. ![]() GIVE ME TREATS!!!!! ![]() Just because he's so cute, one more of Nacho! |

Congratulations to you and Nacho for your hard work. Good luck with your next classes. It will be very rewarding to develop this strong bond between you and Nacho. My wife and I have Obedience-titled several dogs in our lives, and our two dogs now are also certified therapy dogs. Have fun!

I don't know how far we're going to take Nacho with his training. We didn't question going for the intermediate training since the puppy training worked so well, but I don't know about the advanced and trick classes. Although it would be cool to get him certified as an AKC Canine Good Citizen. Did your dogs get that? |

We have done that. Actually, the Therapy Dog certification is essentially the same. It actually would help to take him through one or two basic obedience classes (depending on how he does) once he gets old enough. At least 6 months. If he does well in the obedience classes, then he will have no problem passing the CGC test or therapy certification. We actually get the biggest satisfaction from the therapy work. We visit a local hospital with our guys. People really love them, and have said it was their visits that helped them get well. We have actually been at the hospital and heard our dog's name being paged over the intercom so that someone doesn't miss them while they're visiting. Really heart warming!

I just checked out the CGC requirements and I can't imagine Nacho being able to do all that. But then again he's not even five months old and we've only done the most basic training with him so far. I'd love for him to be behaved enough to meet the requirements, even if he doesn't actually get certified.
Everyone loves this dog, seriously. When we take him to Petsmart, every single employee in the place knows him and comes up to say hi. Practically everyone else in the store wants to say hi to him too, I've never seen anything like it. What kind of dogs do you have? The one in your avatar looks like a Collie but I can't tell for sure. |

We've titled a few Golden Retrievers over the years, but they're all gone. Right now we have a Shetland Sheepdog (Ozzie - 4-1/2 yrs.), and a Yellow Labrador Retriever (Carmel - 7 yrs.) My wife's on the fence about getting a third pooch. Three dogs are much tougher to manage than two for many reasons. We will always have two so they have each other to keep company. My wife used to have a three dog rule so that when one leaves us, one suddenly isn't alone. At this point I'm leaving the decision to get a third dog up to her.

We want to get a second dog too, but for a while. We want Nacho to be fully grown and trained to the point where we're just working to maintain what he knows. My brother has two Beagles. He had one, then they got another one when he and his wife were going to have a baby so he'd have someone to play with. We'll probably do the same thing, but necessarily another Corgi.
