Pulled over 500ft from home!

Let me start by saying damn I was lucky and I do not normally drink and drive. That being said I was bowling with some friends and some smoking ladies. We were all drinking pitchers of miller lite and when we left we decided to go to my friends house and play some drinking games. A few hours later I had to go home because I had to work early. My friends condo is like a mile from my house so I thought i would take my chances and make the drive after not drinking for a lil bit. It was 2:15 AM and i was leaving her complex and there is a big hill with a stop sign 1/2 way down. I didnt feel like downshifting so i rolled through it in 3rd gear. AS I am blowing the stop sign my HID's light up the side of the police tahoe and i was like SHITTTT. Being stupid and close to home and the light just happend to be green (light is never green at 2AM i gun it. Make the 180 and head up the main street, the cop come flying out of the complex but his lights arent on. So im like go go go go the next light that i have to turn right at is green too so i am flying to make it, make the green and am like 1/2 a mile from my street. AS i turn my turn signal on to get into my neighbor hood he hits the lights. So i start poppin mints in my mouth and since i am the first court in the hood and i live on the corner i almost made it. I stop at my corner having already opened my garage door and am like SHIT a dui in my front yard. Cop gets out and is super cool. Asks me if i know why he stopped me and i was like " yeah I rolled through the stop sign in 4 lakes. He is like why would you do a dumb thing like that. My reponse was i was tired and didnt feel like downshifting. He just laughed and then was like wait a second. Your car is stick? I drive an Acura CL-S and he didnt know that in 03 they made a limited number of 6 speeds. He complemented my car and then asked me if i had been drinking. I was like yes sir i was drinking earlier but not for the last few hours. He took my info and asked if this was my current address. I laughed and said yes sir and pointed to my open garage, he laughed and said wow you almost made it and said now he knew why i was trying to run. He was awesome and said get in the house put your car away and keep it there till tomorrow. I was soooo relieved i didnt waste a second getting my ass home. I went to smoke a cig in my drive way and he watched my every move till i went inside. It must have been my lucky day:)

Consider it a lesson learned...

I had a very similar experience a few years ago and have NEVER touch my keys since when alcohol is involved...its just not worth it.

And I thought I got a lucky break from a cool cop today.

Let's just not make this a repeat incident. Drinking and driving FTMFL. I'm really surprised he let you off. Just make sure you thank your lucky stars and learn your lesson the easy way. Life doesn't give you that offer often.

Now just imagine what would have happened if you accidentally hit and killed some poor bastard when you were trying to 'run home'.

Even with a BA below your state's DUI level, any level of tested impairment would push you into a quite sever prison sentence. Its all fun and games until your 'mad driving skills' miss the person crossing the street in a poorly illuminated area, etc., etc., etc.
