Possibly relocating to Houston

Due to job salary and cost of living here in Florida I'm thinking of relocating to Houston. About a 50% salary increase and lower cost of living (by a lot). The places I'm looking at are west/north Houston. Any cities I should not even consider to move to? Any advice from anyone relocating a major distance? I've figured it's going to cost me about $5k to relocate when its all said and done.

Houston sucks bad. I lived there for two years and it was a nightmare the whole time. I would strongly recommend against it.

I grew up in Houston 1980 through 2000 so I know a lot about the place. I have since lived in San Antonio for 4 years (2000 to 2004) and now in Atlanta From 2004 to Now. Me personally, I love Houston but now that I have seen other places I can see a lot more about the place that I dont like so much. If I move back which I probably will in the next year or so, I would like to move to the Galaria area part of town dispite the traffic. Let me know what you are thinking and maybe I can help shed some light on it for you!

Well I lived there for 38 years, it sux.
I move to Des Moines IA (no really)

My income has tripled.
I don't have to drive 45 minutes to go anywhere. ( 45 minute is a low number by the way).
No more 100% humidity with high the in 90's low 100's ( 80's 90's in winter time)
No traffic none zip, zilch, NADA.
I can drive across the state here in about the time it used to take me to go to work across town. (39.4 miles each way, from NE houston to SE houston)
Yes it is colder, but I can dress for it, you can only take so much off to stay cool.

What kind of work do you do?

I lived in Houston for 26 years before moving to Columbus. Grew up there my entire life up until 3 years ago. It has its good things and its bad things. I agree that it does take entirely too much time to get from one point to another, but it's a city of 4 million people, what do you expect? But the cultural, theatrical and sports aspect of the city make it so enriching.

As far as where to live, it's based on what type of living you prefer. Do you like old houses on tree-lined streets or new subdivisions? Do you prefer condo or apartments? Country living or city living? Houston has all of these to offer. You can live in the heartbeat of the city, or you could live 30 minutes outside and be in a subdivision or a little piece of land to call your own. Tell me what you're looking for, and I'll tell you where to find it.
