most american makers depreciate more rapidly than their japanese counterparts. I think its due to some cost cutting on the interior materials and other comforts. By the cars you mentioned, I think your best bet is the srt-4 since all your choices are performance oriented. The srt-4 is a solid performer in a straight line. Dont worry about resale unless you plan on selling it. If you want an all around performer, wait for the si.
*Edit* and yes, the neon will exit stage left to make room for the caliber |

It's not just the interior. Dodge is notorious for bad paint jobs, road noise, etc. I'm not saying all Dodge cars are bad, because the SRT-4 is awesome, but you'll have to deal with the fact that it is a Dodge. I'd agree though, that's the best car for the money/performance if that's what you're after. If you want a car that's going to save you money on base price and gas, go with a Civic Coupe or wait for the Si.

Uhmm.... I know of the neon ACR and the neon SRT-4, but I've never heard of the SRT-4. Infact the SRT-4 is not designed to have excellent handling, it's ment for striaght line, the factory unadjustable setting of 0 camber should eb clue to this. |

For the isue of resale, a car is only worth what people are willing to pay for it. Dodge (Chryslers) are known to have major problems before 100k mile mark, hence people do not want to pay much for them because they know they will have to fix it and dump lots of money into it.
Also, remember that this is a general rule of thumb. Just because someones uncle had a Dodge for 300k miles, doesn't mean every Dodge will last, market values are based on the AVERAGE cost of repair and life of the car. Since Dodges tend to have low end resale, one would think that those cars do not last long and have high repair cost. I had a Dodge Interpid, and that thing was VERY costly to fix and broke down all the time with 100,000 miles on the car. Never again will I own a Dodge car. |

The SRT4 lacks the power windows if i remember correctly.
Mitsubishi doesn't produce high quality cars either. My girl use to have a Galant and she would get recall notices in the mail 7 years after the car was built. Resale value sucks on it. VWs have cheap interiors but probably has a better resale value than dodge or Mitsubishi. Honda for the win. |
