Why they dislike the U.S. ...
This is not a hate thread ... just shedding some light as i know many of us on here are oblivious to the things that go on outside the U.S. where U.S. policy is involved.... i'll try to keep it short and to facts only ...
me being from another country...i've been exposed to much of it as well ... i can't speak for the people of the middle east or elsewhere where religion and fanaticism plays a role. So take this as a Caribbean issue...general Caribbean 1. Refer to the Caribbean countries as 3rd world and under developed... the people hate this and dislike americans because of it ... 2. Because of the above, Americans visit or u get into contact with americans and they ask u some stupid ass questions like do u have roads down there ... do people still swing from trees and BS like that which is highly insulting to people ... stuff like that builds up over the years and people get bitter.... i've had a professor ask me stuff like that... a professor 3. Do u know that back in the day (couple years), not sure if it's still this way as many governments listened to their people, that a US resident could travel to a caribbean country on only a drivers lisence? what's the significance of this? Something that simple had enranged the people ... why? Because the U.S. governments puts people of the Caribbean through hell to get a visitors visa....how? To begin with ... there isn't a U.S. embassy in every caribbean island, so u have to take a plane to the closest one... u need to get there at about 4 in the morning and join the line because u have people from all over the caribbean there... they don't offer u shelter or nothing ... not even water or a cup of coffee... then u need to "prove your worth". can u imagine someone telling you to prove your worth so u can get a visa when they can come into ur country on a drivers lisence? so u have to provide all u personal information like bank statements, finances, family history and all kinds of stuff and after all that and a plane ticket they send u home with nothing cuz u may just be too poor... or don't look the part or whatever .... then they wonder why people stay when they finally get a chance .... after years and years of complaints ... it's still the same way... and is one of the biggest reasons why people dislike the U.S. 4. Caribbean nations depend heavilly on tourism and the U.S. used that to their advantage and basically keep the nations' hands tied behind their backs unable to do nothing about the situation which brings more rage... 5. Cash crop for the majority of the Caribbean was Bananas. The biggest buyers were the UK and the U.S. ... well ... the so called undeveloped 3rd world countries were making good money off of their exports until the U.S. decided that they were paying too much for bananas and they basically said " lower the price or we don't buy" ... they were paying less than a dollar for a hand of bananas... they basically wanted to pay nothing.... and ofcouse the nations could not afford to lower the prices so they stopped buying... as if this wasn't bad enough ... they went and bought bananas from giant company chicita which had a history of drugs being found in it's banana shipments ... and they were paying more for the chicita bananas!!! but they tried to say it was quality control.... The british ended up having to pick up the slack to help the nations before that went bankrupt as long as it could but they couldn't keep buying a surplus ... needless to say most of the islands' banana industry crashed putting them in situations where they had to visit the IMF.... more rage. this was just a general tid bit... i could disect it nation by nation, island by island or regions etc .... and be more specific and u'll really get an understanding but it will be too long... but as u can imagine every country has it's separate issues ... that was just general caribbean issues. as minor as they may seem to you ... years of that kind of stuff builds frustration. if i was to break it down to Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba, St. Lucia, Barbados etc etc ... it would get crazy... so that was just a tid bit ... political issues are even more ridiculous... smaller nations are always put to their knees.... but they always say how much money the give this country or whatever but you never hear what's really going on ... u have to experience it to really know why people of other nations dislike the U.S. soo much. i see both sides... i'm a fortunate person and not as disadvantaged as others, so most issues don't really affect me so i have no real hard feelings but i do know that it's not just the middle eastern people or whoever else who dislikes the U.S. ... the policies are just breeding hate throughout the world including the caribbean. then we can talk about iraq and somalia, dafur and so on .... that's a whole other ballgame... people don't dislike the west .... they dislike the U.S. just my 2 cents .... PS: i don't dislike the U.S.

There are some interesting points there. I know what you mean about the US making it hard for folks to come in. There's a gorgeous Peruvian girl who works here at the mountain who wants to go to Canada while she's visiting the US. Unfortunately, she could go, but she wouldn't be allowed back in. It's kinda lame the way it's done here at the border.

Nice write up Marvie...unfortunately to a large degree American will tell you to
Many Americans are dissolusioned (sp?) about our foreign policy...we f**k other countrys over on a very regular basis...why??? because we can...plain and simple...survival of the fittest at its finest... Personally, I'm planning on leaving the US for good in a few years...I always liked this quote: "I love my country, but hate my government" Thank you for giving people an idea of what the US does to other people on a regular basis... I could go on for hours with examples...and please don;t get me started on Iraq.....

visitors shouldn't have to learn english ... they r just visitors... u are not asked to learn spanish if u going to visit spain.
but i do agree that people who intend to stay need to speak english if it infact the nation's official language.

The U.S. imperial policies in Latin America, South America, and the Carribbean are highly controversial... but what empire's policies are ever highly regarded by all? And while the U.S. no longer has an empire per se, it has an indomitable sphere of influence in those areas still, and the relics of that long-gone era still remain. I don't really seeing it getting any better in the future, though.

I too know that the US backs up cuban terrorists as long as they kill Fidel Castro. Ironic how they utilize the "War on Terror" topic against countries with oil yet the terrorists they back up inside the US are free to walk. But then again i can't say too much...Big Brother is watching
